If the light wont lit on the port where that cable is connected , that can mean the cable is bad or the router ports are bad so if you have an extra cable better try it and if that work so the problem is the ethernet cable but if still have the same result the problem is the ports on the router and better call Linksys tech support for that this is the number 800-3267114.

Hope that helps.....

I need to connect a D-Link router to my cable modem so that I can use my laptop anywhere in my home

Cable-modem <-- Ethernet cable --> WAN (or "Internet") port on the router

LAN port on router <-- Ethernet cable --> network-port on your laptop

Then, access the "built-in" web-server on the router,
and run the "Wireless Networking Setup" wizard:
* to set an SSID ("network-name")
* an encryption-level (Hint: choose 'wpa')
* a password for your wireless network

Then, disconnect the Ethernet cable from your computer,
and then "wireless available wireless networks".
Select your newly-created network, and connect to it.

How to connect a router

It depends on the router but how I did it is
1. Connect the ethernet cable to the router, then the cable that came with the router to the router with one end, then plug the other end into the computer.
2. There should be a disk that you have to install which is the firmware for the router. Once this is done, it will automatically update from now on.
3. It should set up itself!

I have a belkin router i am having trouble connecting it. i dont know where to connect the ethernet cable. Does it go the computer or the modem?

the ethernet cable should be connected to the ethernet port of the router to the ethernet/network port of the computer. you will also need to connect a cable through the router and the modem, then a phone cable from the modem to the phone line.

No ethernet port on older Dell desktop

Yes, all you need is a PCI ethernet card. You can pick them up rather cheap. Here is one. You basically plug it into an available PCI port on the inside of your computer. If XP doesn't automatically install it, just insert the included CD with the drivers on it and XP will do the rest. And remember to please give this answer a good rating of fixya. Thanks.

How do i connect arouter to my computers

you would have to take the ethernet cable out from the back of your computer and plug it into the router into the port that is off to one side by itself. ( away from the other four ports ) then you have to connect a ethernet cable to each of your computers from each of the ports in the back of the router. If you have windows XP or Vista then your computers should be ready to go.

How to install a linksys router to my desk top for my wireless laptop

1. plug in the router
2. connect the router to your DSL or Cable Modem using the supplied ethernet cable
3. connect the router to your computers ehternet port with a second piece of ethernet cable

you can use catagory 5 ethernet cable , or catagory 6

Most linksys routers have 4 to 5 ethernet ports to connect computers to.

One of the ports will be marked as the one to connect to your DSL or Cable Modem

Usually when looking at the back of the router the WAN port will be located to the far left.

Thank you for choosing FixYa!

I have a linksy instant broadband etherfast cable/dsl router and I have WOW internet service. I'm been using a dell computer and just obtain a EMac computer and would like to share the WOW internet...

Greetings...

Which Linksys router do you have?
If it has 4 ethernet ports in the rear of the router you will need CAT 5 cable to run from the router to the computer...
One cable per computer...
The computer needs to have a network card in it...

So the setup is... WOW modem to Internet input on Linksys router and cables to each computer from the Linksys...
