Question about Dell Inkjet 720 Printer

1 Answer

Cartridge slams My kids were printing something and opened the cover (and who know what else they did). Now, there is a 15" x 1/4" +/- piece of plastic (j33ooxa on it) and when I it on, the cartridges slam on both sides of the printer housing (really quick) and nothing else happens. I'm on the job search so, my neighbor loaned it to me. Someone, please help!

We received this printer with the computer as a gift. In the 2 years we've had it, we never hooked it up.
This week we decided to turn it on and once the button was pushed, it slammed the cartridge into the right side of the printer body actually making the printer move on the table. When I opened the cover to see what happened, it slammed over to the left side, stayed there and the on button began to blink.
Also, the computer will not find the printer when connected to the USB port.
    ???? Can this be fixed?

the ribbon which attaches to the ink cartridge unit is not attached to the printer. You can clearly see the contacts on the loose end of the ribbon but I cannot see anywhere obvious to reattach it. Wiring diagram?

That piece of plastic that is out of the machine helps the print head to know where its at on the paper think of it as a guide of a sort you may be able to place it back in.I wouldn't turn the printer back on until the part is put back in you may damage it beyond repair.

The instructions tell me to lift the lid, but I don't know how, it seems to be locked, is there something underneath I need to push or pull. I need to change the ink cartidges

On this particular printer there is no locking mechanism to access the ink cartridges. In order to open the cover, use a single open hand and place your fingers just underneath the screen on the front, and pull upward. The entire scanner piece should raise and a plastic bar on the right-hand side will lower down to prop it open.

If you're having a lot of trouble opening it, you may want to check around the sides of the printer to see if there is any tape leftover from when the printer was packed in its original box. When they ship a printer it is always covered in tape to make sure that nothing falls open or breaks before it's delivered, and there may be a piece of clear (almost invisible!) tape left over preventing the printer from opening.

Once it's open, the ink cartridges should come to the middle. Press down on the small lever on the print head (the ink cartridge holder) to pop the cover open so that you can install the cartridge.

Hope this is helpful!

Hi, my printer keeps saying cover open even though it is not have opened printer up but do not know which way back to put the white piece thanks

Remove the sheets of paper. Open the printer cover and remove the cartridges as well. Close the cover. Then unplug and replug the printer into the power outlet to reset itself. When the printer turns on, reinsert the cartridges when prompted. Load some paper. Check for any error. Try to print.

I am currently getting the message that the cartridge is jammed and there is no papaer in the printer. Theres no obstruction for the cartridge, it slides across easily manually, just jams when printing. It...

First of all please check inside of the printer. You have to look for any piece of paper, paperclip or something like this. Then, please remove your printer cartridge and try to print with another one. There is an option that your printer "FUSER FIXING FILM" is damaged and that's why the paper sticks in that place. You have to find a skilled person for further assistance.

Lexmark 5400 cartridge carrier slams up against back???? Won't stop!! It's a new printer, put in a high cap black and low cap color cartridge. Any ideas how to fix this?

Cartridges may not be seated properly. Remove all the cartridges from the printer. Close the cover. Unplug the printer from the power source. Wait for about 10-15 seconds. Plug printer back to power source. If printer ink cartridge carrier still slams on the sides, encoder strip of the printer might be damaged. If it's still within warranty from where you bought it, have it replaced at that store. If ink cartridge carrier is not slamming to the sides, re-insert the cartridges. Make sure there are no obstructions along the carrier's path. Close the cover. Let the printer print the alignment page. If it's still going to slam the carrier, have it replaced.

Carriage swings from one side to other

Remove the cartridges from the printer. Close the cover. Unplug the printer from the power source. Wait for about 10-15 seconds before plugging it back in. Once the printer's ready, re-insert the cartridges. Close the cover. It should try to print an alignment page. Let it print the page all the way through without cancelling it. If carrier is not slamming to the sides anymore, problem's resolved. But, when after re-inserting the cartridges and the printer tries to print the alignment and still slamming the carrier to the sides, that sounds more like a mechanical problem and needs to be replaced. If your printer is still within warranty, you can call Lexmark. They might send you a replacement. Good luck!

With my HP C4150 I keep getting the error "remove and check print cartridge on the right" I have replaced the cartridge and its still messed up. Any clues?

Sometimes get that statement if your using generic cartridges. Also when changing an hp cartridge usually it will require you to align the page after changing the cartridge. Could try alligning maybe that will remove the error message.

Cant put printer piece back in

The encoder strip is most likely the problem. Unplug the power from the printer. Open the front cover and move the cartridge carrier to the center. You should see a white ribbon cable, a thin plastic strip and a black belt with teeth.
The thin plastic strip is the encoder strip. It rides in a sensor on the back of the cartridge carrier that you will not be able to see. Reach in with the first finger of either hand and carefully strum the strip as if playing a guitar.
The strip will need to be lowered slightly and brought towards you slightly. Please be careful not to break the strip or your printer will not function. Once you believe the strip is set correctly, plug the power back and try printing the self test. If it slams to the left again, the strip is not yet set correctly.
Please Note: Fixing the encoder strip is a delicate procedure.

Try to print any document.

If this failed then printer cannot be repaired, if the printer is under warranty then Lexmark will replace the printer else. I am sorry to say you need to purchase a new printer

Canon PIXMA MP160 showing paper jam, but none

hi
just recently had these problems
symptoms:
LED flashing E3 code and alarm light was solid. But dissapeared when opened the coved and came back on when closed the cover.
Also the when the cover was open the inks did not slide out to the left and stayed to the right side.
There was no paper jam, but error said paper jam.

Solution:
1. I took a thick piece of paper, from like a paper folder ones, thick enough to go in the printer and not curl up when pushed..
2. turned off the printer and turned it back on.
3, while printer was turning on,and makings sound as it does normally when turning on, I pushed through the piece of paper and the rotors stoped for a millisecond.
4.the rotors started again and pushed out the paper by it self with out my force.
5. I let the printer get started. and then turned it off and then on.
6. this solved all of my problems.
this was the first problem ever with this printer in 3 years.,preety good printer.

good luck...

It's losing knowledge of where the carriage is on the rail, hence the carriage tring to escape threw the side

and I'm concerned with your L-01 piece is one of these?
b093c21.jpg
If so thats the cover switch but to my knowledge doesn't create the slam, that usally known to be a plasic strip that runs the width of printer, not intact, Dirty or not running threw the carriage sensor

Tell me more and I'll continue.

Did you forget to take the small piece of tape off of the cartridge? Also, make sure the cover is latched all the way (sometimes you have to give it a good "slam".
