Place a towel on the seat and sit on it. After it is dry you can spray it with armorall to finish cleaning it.

The hot tub pump blows the power everytime I turn it on tried changing the fuse and had a look inside but can't see anything wrong please help!

Definitely a short circuit on the pump. Check that it is not wet - it might look dry but can be wet inside. Pump motor can be stuck due to worn bearings or overheating at some time. Get a electrician to test the circuit if not found to be wet. Be careful when fiddling there and switch of the mains before touching anything even with the fuse blown/circuit breaker down.

Kohler ch13s will not start{backfires]. But some times after many trys it will start and run find

I had this puzzler too! Turned out the problem is caused by the fuel-bowl needle valve. It may look OK but looks are deceiving. It gets a coating on the tip that causes a poor seal ... poor enough to allow fuel to flood the engine after a short run time. The flooded engine dies, but restarts OK after a delay that clears (cooks off) the excess fuel that flooded/killed the engine. SOLUTION: Remove the needle valve and carefully wipe and clean the tip with a white cloth soaked in solvent (gas is OK). The cloth will show the deposits that cause the problem. Carefully re-install the needle valve and float parts, start the engine, confirm that it runs OK and continuously. Simple fix .... puzzling problem.

What is causing my 12hp kohler engine to backfire and quit running when given any throttle?

That sounds like either bad (old) gasoline or the carburetor needs cleaning very badly - it's running very lean.

Generator will not start, tried changing choke possitions and changed spark plug, nothing has worked.

Sometimes when generators won't start I find the following can do the trick.
  • Remove the spark plug
  • Pour about 5 ml (1 Teaspoonful) of fuel into the opening where you took the plug from
  • Dip the end of the plug in the fuel so the spark gap gets wet
  • Replace the plug and try starting it
The fuel you poured in should ignite and may be enough to get it running. You may need to repeat the procedure 2 to 3 times. Don't pour in too much fuel or it will flood.

If that fails, was the generator left away for a few months with fuel in the carburettor. If so it may have formed a gel in the jets. If this is the case and the above method doesn't get it going you'll need to take it to a mechanic and have the carburettor stripped down and the jets cleaned.

Brand new Honda Generator 2000i will not start. uhhg

Hi and welcome to FixYa I am Kelly.

Things that must be verified.

1. Fuel selector: ON
2. Start run sw: ON
3. Oil Level : Full
4. Choke selector FULL ON for no more than 2 pulls initially The half choke then off
5. Spark at the Spark Plug YES? NO?
a. No spark suspect low oil level sensor is grounding the ignition either due to low oil level or it just is not working properly.

After doing all of the above...

Spark Plug WET or DRY? Dry and still won't start check fuel supply. If you use the choke with the start run switch in the off position the spark plug should get WET. Spark plug does not get wet... with choke on and ignition off. Fuel supply problem.

At this point I suspect either the Oil Level is incorrect or... that the FUEL SELECTOR is OFF.

If you need more help just respond here and we can press on.

Thanks for choosing FixYa

Kohler 5E generator on my boat got wet there is no power at the 120 V. distribution panel now. Any ideas on where to start troubleshooting ?

  1. First you must clean it all, especialy the generator, windings, AVR etc. if it was wet with sea water (better do it with fresh water or electro-clean, than other liquids). Then you should dry it well (with a hot blower) for about, but not less than 24 hours, before starting.
  2. If you already started it wet, or it got wet while running, you may have some parts burned, with low insulation of cables, windings etc. Check the AVR, rings and brushes (if any) and other electronic boards for visualy burned elements or check the semiconductor elements (diodes and transistors) for proper qualities.
  3. You should check the gen. windings insulation resistence to hull (gen. iron) [all stator and rotor windings]. It should be more than 100 kOhm in order to let you start the generator motor.
  4. When dry and clean, with no burned elements you can start the engine. If it reaches its normal speed - measure the voltage on generator terminals, if it is OK check the connections (breakers, fuses) to the distribution panel. If it is very low under 30 V AC, the problem may be in AVR (Auto Voltage Reg. - Field DC supply)
  5. If the voltage is under 10 V AC, you may need to recharge the magnetic field with a 12 V battery connected shortly to field terminals - +/- respected.
If you fulfil these instructions and you need more help, please ask as an answer to this solution or on my e-mail: parlapanov@yahoo.com.
Please give some information about your generator: is it 5ECD, 5EKD or some other - then give some more details about it.

HONDA MAKES LOUSY CARBS:
Remove the Carberator from the engine...You need to inspect it.
Remove the carb bowl and clean it.
Remove the Float and clean the valve seat seat.
Blow thru the fuel flow areas and see if plugged.
Note: A PC compressed air can works well for this.
There is a steel plug going up to the center of the carb venturi.
This plug get plugged a lot! rust is the problem!
Use a very tiny drill less than .010 Dia to check for rust.
Insert from the bottom up and see if it comes out in the venturi.
If not, you need to hand force the drill upward and clean it out.
Soak everything by spraying carb cleaner in all openings.

note: DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE THE RUSTED PLUG. CLEAN OUT THE HOLE SO FUEL CAN FLOW INTO THE VENTURI. DO NOT DRILL IT OVERSIZE.

Re install the carb...90% of all Honda engine problems is the same.

Very hard to start

make sure choke is closed all the way.
filters are clean [if any]
or maybe to much choke, try with throttle wide open.
check plug to see if it is wet or not.
if dry it will need choke, if wet it will need throttle wide open.once starts, slow revs.
if plug is dry try a little shot of gas in cyl.

My generator eu3000 will see its third winter in Western Washington and it does not start with the key. My wife needs the generator to run an oxygen machine, so the key start is critical. When I try the...

The EU3000 is a gel-pack (spill-proof) battery. Using a 10mm wrench or socket, remove the four (4) screws that hold the end cover on the machine.
Use a voltage meter and test the battery at rest (no load, not running). You should see 12 or higher volts DC. Record the voltage and then start the unit manually. Turn the ECO throttle "OFF" so the unit revs up to full RPM. You should see 14 or higher volts DC to verify that the charging system is OK.
The conclusion:
If the 12V test shows less than 10VDC, replace battery.
If the 14V test shows less than 12VDC, have a HONDA AUTHORIZED shop diagnose it for you.

Hope this helps.
