Is there a pin on either one of the upright arms that needs to be pushed in to hold the treadmill platform? If you could share more information about the make and model of your treadmill i may be able to provide more specific guidance.

it is a Reebok T 12.80. I don't see any pins on the upright arms...
Karla-
The T 12.80 uses a two-piece pole with a latch know to lock the platform in place in the upright position. The operation is described on page 20 and 21 of the instruction manual.
Here's a link to the instruction manual. Paste the text into your browser and it will open the manual in Adobe Reader.

HOW TO MOVE THE TREADMILL
HOW TO MOVE THE TREADMILL
Make sure that the pin
on the lock knob is inserted into the slot in the catch.
1. Hold the handrails as shown and place one foot against a
wheel.
2. Tilt the treadmill back until it rolls freely on the front wheels.
Carefully move the treadmill to the desired location. Never
move the treadmill without tipping it back. To reduce
the risk of injury, use extreme caution while moving
the treadmill. Do not attempt to move the treadmill
over an uneven surface.
3. Place one foot on the base, and carefully lower the treadmill
until it is resting in the storage position.
