Engine compartment lid of Pontiac Fiero

Does the trunk of the Pontiac Fiero only open by keys or is there a hidden lever. I know there is a button on the dash, but if the trunk key is missing and the button on the dash doesn't seem to work when the battery is hooked up then what does a person do?

There are only 4 ways to open a Fiero trunk. With the key, with the electric trunk release, with a locksmith, and with a big hammer and screwdriver.

Some year Fieros required the parking brake be applied to activate the electric release, some had to be in park, and some of the early models would work just by pushing the button. The ground is through the latch, itself. If anything has gotten on the body portion of the latch and the trunk was closed, like a towel or plastic bag, that prevents the trunk portion from making metal to metal contact with the body striker, the release won't activate. If you can put power to the car, insert a key into the trunk lock, clamp one end of a negative jumper cable to it, and the other end underneath to some part of the frame. Hit the release button. This trick completes the ground circuit directly into the latch mechanism and bypasses the body striker plate.

If this doesn't work, remove the release switch from the dash, unplug it, and apply power with a 9V flashlilght battery to the terminals. You may have to play with the emergency brake handle during these processes.

I have a 2003 Buick Century and the buttons to open my trunk don't work and I lost my trunk key. Is there any other way I can get into my trunk without taking the back seat out?

A local auto locksmith can make you a key by guesswork or by using an impressioning tool. Or they can open it and you can get a new lock and key. A local dealership can get you a key based on the VIN Number.

Can not open trunk on a pontiac soltice. No clicking sound from remote or switch in glove box fuses are ok

The rear compartment lid release system consists of the following components:
• Body control module (BCM)
• Folding top cover actuator
• GMLAN serial data link
• Keyless entry transmitter
• Rear compartment lid ajar switch
• Rear compartment lid release actuator
• Rear compartment lid release switch
• Remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR)
• Trunk fuses
• Trunk release relay

Rear Compartment Lid Release System Operation
The rear compartment lid can be released by operating the rear compartment lid release switch or pressing the rear compartment lid release button on the keyless entry transmitter. When the rear compartment lid release switch is operated, the rear compartment lid release switch signal circuit to the body control module (BCM) is switched to ground. The BCM receives the rear compartment lid release switch input and applies ground to the trunk release relay control circuit. This energizes the trunk release relay coil, closing the switch side contacts, allowing battery voltage to be applied to the rear compartment lid release actuator and folding top cover actuator, releasing the buttresses and opening the rear compartment lid. Ground for the rear compartment lid release switch is provided at G300. The rear compartment lid ajar switch, rear compartment lid release actuator, and folding top cover actuator are provided ground at G301. The rear compartment lid will not release until the vehicle speed is zero and in park.

Do you know what DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes are ?
DTC B3265 01 : Trunk Relay Output Short to Battery
DTC B3265 06 : Trunk Relay Output Short to Ground or Open

Do you know what a relay is an how it works ? TRUNK release relay located in the underhood fuse / relay box.

My remote is bad and the button on the door of my 2008 saturn aura xr will not open the trunk

How about a key ?

Luggage Compartment Description and Operation (Sedan)
Rear Compartment Lid Release
The rear compartment lid can be released in one of three ways:
• Inserting the key into the key lock cylinder, if equipped
• Operating the rear compartment lid release switch
• Using the keyless entry fob
To operate rear compartment lid with the rear compartment lid release switch or with the rear compartment release button on the key fob, the gear selector may be in any position, but vehicle speed must equal 0 for the rear compartment lid to release.
When the rear compartment lid release switch is pushed, the rear compartment lid release signal circuit to the body control module (BCM) is grounded. BCM then grounds the coil side of the trunk release relay through the trunk release relay control circuit. With this voltage is applied to the rear compartment lid release actuator, opening the rear compartment.

do you know how to do electrical testing ?

Circuit/System Verification
Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Trunk Release Switch parameter while pressing and releasing the rear compartment lid release switch. The parameter should change between Active and Inactive.
? If the parameter does not change, refer to Trunk Release Switch Malfunction.
Command the trunk release with a scan tool, the rear compartment lid latch should release the trunk lid.
? If the rear compartment lid latch does not release, refer to Rear Compartment Lid Latch Malfunction

You may want to take it to a repair shop .

My trunk won't open. What's wrong

Hi Annette, Im AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair.

Annette, if you are already able to get inside the trunk, remove the lever that goes to the lock actuator because the actuator may be locked up. Then see if it will open. NOTE: If the lock solenoid is mounted to the latch this will not work. If that doesn't help, then see if you can remove the bolts that hold the latch to the trunk and open the trunk that way so you can see better what the problem could be. Keep me posted at my auto-repair-website here: http://www.bigasautorepair.com/

How to turn off the rear compartment light on a 1986 fiero gt? It wont turn off. Light stays on and the

Pop your trunk. Look up at the latch assembly on the lid and it should be brass colored but maybe a fuzzy white from corrosion from a humid sealed trunk. On the rear facing you side is a black plastic switch assembly that is screwed to the metal latch. This is the switch that turns on the trunk light. When the lid closes the hook/striker should press this switch in but if it's worn/misaligned, it can fail to open the circuit and shut off the light. You can just remove the bulb to stop it from killing your battery and the Ajar light on your dash will go out when you shut the car off.

Good luck,

87 fiero trunk key will turn but wont unlock the trunk. any way to open the trunk without destroying it ? thanks Jerry

I'm assuming you don't have the electric latch...Since the key is turning, the piece of metal that connects the lock with the latching mechanism probably came off on the other end. You are going to have to destroy the lock. You can do that without hurting the rest of the car though. Drill it out so you can remove the locks internal pieces and stick a long regular screw driver in and turn the latch. The Fiero Store sells new locks.

Does the trunk of the Pontiac Fiero only open by keys or is there a hidden lever

Does your Fiero have a power trunk switch? I had the same problem where I locked the keys in the trunk and the battery was dead. I had a portable car jumper that had a cigarette lighter socket and basically hooked it up through the cigarette lighter in the Fiero. The power flowed from the portable jumper through the car to give it enough power to open the trunk. You could also splice a cigarette lighter cord to a battery and plug it in.
If you don't have power trunk then you may have to drill the lock. I have heard that Fiero's were all wired for power trunks but you had to pay for the "option" to have them put in the switch when they were band new. I wouls also suggest taking off the small trim panel to the right of the intrument cluster and see if there is a power trunk connector there. If there is then you could purchase a power trunk switch to pop the trunk. Unfortunately I own 5 Fiero's all of which came with power trunk so I was never able to verify if that rumor was true. Good luck.
