Question about D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G DI-624 Wireless Router (DI624RE)

1 Answer

Can't connect to the Internet via router

I bought a slughtly used d-link DI-624 router to replace my old one that I think got fried from a power surge in a recent storm. Naturally, it is not under warranty, and I can't afford to pay the price of a new router just for d-link support.
This is my dilemma:
My boyfriend's computer is a PC. Comcast is our IP. We use one of Comcast's DHG 535 modems. I gave a Mac. We didn't have problems with the router before, but Comcast recently changed out our old modem for this new digital one.
Comcast says they recognize the router when it is connected to the modem, but the PC cannot connect to the Internet through the router.
I haven't even gotten to the point to see if my MAC will connect!
Can someone help me? Maybe even send me step by step instructions in case the PC's settings have somehow been changed?
I'll appreciate any help I can get!
Thanks...

Very similar problem. I have a slightly used DI-624, and a PC, and a Mac. I can access the internet directly through the High Speed modem, but as soon as I plug the router in, neither computer can access the internet. and to make it more confusing, if I plug in my Vonage phone line to the router, IT CAN access the internet, and will work.
The router status says it is connected to the modem, and my computer can access the router.. but I cant even access the modem IP setup screen through the router.
    Any more ideas? Thanks!

Well, this is a very generalized problem that others have, so i'll give you some starting tips. If you can connect when you plug your computer directly into the modem, then it sounds like your modem is bonding to your computer. There are a couple ways to fix this. The easiest is to ask your router to clone your MAC addess (not to be confused with a mac computer, a MAC address is a 10 digit code that uniquely identifies your computer on a network). See the attached image to find where it should be. Can't connect to the Internet via router - c26d492.jpg
Once you set it to clone your machines mac address, unplug the computer from the modem, and plug in the router. If this doesn't fix it, please comment back and we'll try some other things. If it does, then give a good rating :-)

You might have reset the router back to factory defaults. You need to reconfigure it using the setup cd that came with it.

Cant get internet on both computers using router

When did the router stop working?

Have you tried a new cable between the router and the modem?

Since the status light is off on the router, that tells me that there is no communication between the router and modem. Is it possible that the router was reset by accident? Resetting it will put all settings to default. If it has been reset then you need to sign on to the router to setup the communication again to your modem. Typically this is done via the IP address.

I can walk you through those steps if that is the case. Try supplying a different cable though between the router and modem. Power off both of them, power on the modem and then power on the router....then try to connect to the Internet.

Can I piggyback a wireless router onto a hard-wired router?

Yes, you can connect the DI-624 to your exitsing EBR-2310, you just need to connect the a cable from port 4 of the EBR-2310 to the internet/wan port of the DI-624, then after that you can already use now the wireless to your laptop and also the wired router to your desktops.
But I may suggest you to just replace the EBR-2310 with the DI-624 so you will only be using 1 router that can cater your laptop and also your desktop, Just connect the cable from your modem that is conencted now to your EBR-2310 to the internet/wan port of the DI-624 then run the setup CD that should be it.

Hope that helps...........
