When you turn the key over to start the car if you hear the fuel pump hum it will start. Sometimes you turn the key over and the pump will not hum the car will not start. It also dies while you are driving and it may take several times before the pump will hum and then the car will start. You never know when it is going to happen. What is causing the pump to not kick on?
I have the same problem. I have been told that the key/ignition may not be talking, and the key may be bad.

The humming is near fuel tamk and engine eventually cuts of, like choking. The hum sounds like a small electric motor running. The humming is near fuel tamk and engine eventually cuts of, like choking. The hum sounds like a small electric motor running.

That's it, that's the definitive answer-it clicks in the tank? The pump is bad, and will need replacing. It should turn on for about 2 seconds to pressurize the fuel line and system with key on-that is the hum you refer to.
Sounds like you got the spark covered. I would look into fuel. Have someone carefully go under the rear of the car. While in park, turn the key to IGN (the one slot before it starts). They should hear a moan or hum for about 1-2 seconds. This is the fuel pump charging up. It should do this every time at key on. If you do not hear that, then it is not turning on the fuel pump. Easiest fix is a fuel pump relay- if youre lucky. If not, its likely the pump. I have gotten cars to start by taking my fist and pounding on the gas tank in a few different areas. This sometimes will get the brushes in the electric fuel pump motor to turn just enough to get it to work. If that succesfully happens, youre in for a new fuel pump. If it does hum, then youre at least getting fuel pump activity. You could check the coils if you havent already.
might of clogged filter also 2 gal might not be enough check for fuel pump noise also when you run these cars out of fuel the pump over heats and goes bad
put fuel in tank. turn key to run position( not start) wait 5 seconds. You should hear the fuel pump running. Repeat. Then start car. If you do not hear the fuel pump hum then it may have siezed due to lack of lubrication from no fuel. Sometimes you can get the fuel pump to kick on if you bang on the gas tank with the palm of your hand_ while turning the key to start position.
with key in ON position can you hear the fuel pump humming uder the middle of car? the pump should hum for about 10 to 15 seconds, then go off and come back on when the key is turned off and then key turned back on.could possibly be a bad fuel filter, or a fuel pump going bad, it's definitly a fuel issue because it starts. try replacing the most inexpensive thing 1st. the fuel filter and then the fuel pump. hope this helps!!!
Best suggestion would be to put a fuel pressure gauge on and and see what the fuel pressure reads when cycling the key off and on pressure should be 37 to 43 any less then this suspect the fuel pump or an electrical connection to pump. When it acts up and you can not hear the pump running try tapping on the fuel tank.If vehicle starts after that suspect the fuel pump.
get into car with windows up close doors so its quiet put key into ignition turn key to on position do not try and start it. when you turn the to on position listen you should hear a hum noise from the fuel tank that will be your fuel pump working the hum will only last about 2 to 5 seconds if you dont hear a hum could mean fuel pumps noy working.
Your fuel pump is supposed to hum, when you turn the key it primes the system and it will hum. When the car is running the fuel pump is running and it will hum. If the noise is excessive then try a higher quality fuel pump, it may be less noisy. You will hear the fuel pump on a lot of vehicles tho when you are sitting at a stop light with your radio off and everything quiet in the car.
Very good possibility that the Fuel Pump has gone out.
Find the Fuel Port on the Fuel Rail going to the Fuel Injectors. Remove the cap. Pack plenty of rags or paper towels around that area. Wear goggles to protect your eyes from Gas Spray! Using another wadded rag or paper towel partially covering this port and a small screw driver - depress the stem inside this port. Have a partner turn the Key over attempting to start the vehicle. A strong stream of gas should come out.
If no gas is coming out: check the Fuel Pump Relay/Fuses. Use a Voltmeter to check for voltage at these locations. The reading should be 11+ to 12 -volts.
If there is Voltage: Again with a partner behind the wheel, remove the gas cap. Place your ear up very close to the Gas Filler Tube (where you put gas in). Have your partner turn the key over to the On (not Start) Position which is the position just before Start. You should faintly hear the Fuel Pump humming. Have your partner turn the Key to the Start Position, again you should hear a very faint humming (over the car cranking).
If there is not indication of humming: Jack-Up and properly support the rear of the vehicle with jack stands. Once again with a partner behind the wheel: go under the vehicle and place your ear up close or on the gas tank. Have your partner turn the Key to the On Position. You should hear the humming.
If not, have your partner turn the Key to the Start Position. There should be humming.
If no humming there is a great chance your fuel pump has gone out.
Based on your year (1994) this is highly probable.
HOWEVER: If there is humming, change out your Fuel Filter and recheck for fuel at the fuel rail.

I think that the 2002 accents still have a external fuel pump i would change that but to be shue it is a fuel problem remove the fuel line from the fuel rail and cycle the key on and off checking to see that there is no fuel spurting out of the line. New fuel pumps aer extremly quiet
