RCA TruFlat 27" TV Flips Through Channels by Itself

This unit keeps flipping through any function that it's on, channels, menu, whatever.

It doesn't have any on-board controls (no hidden front panel) - only the remote.

I used the remote to punch it in to Menu mode, but it flips through that, too. I tried removing the batteries from both of my remote controls, but no luck. Nothing external seems to be causing this, but I can't figure out why it's doing this.

When I looked to see whether the channel button on the TV was stuck, I realized that it doesn't have any on-board controls.

I've seen this problem all over the Internet now that I've got the problem and Googled it, but there's no answer - or even a hint - on how to alleviate this annoying issue.

Any ideas?

Thanks, in advance!

No settings were changed from one use to another. The TV was off overnight and upon turning it on this morning, it was flipping through the channels on its own.

This is an RCA 27F524T TruFlat SDTV.

I tried unplugging it and waiting a couple of hours and plugging it in again. That
didn't work. Then I tried leaving it unplugged overnight. That didn't
    change anything.

Then, I tried looking into the Parental Control, as suggested. As
indicated, this is difficult because the thing is flipping through
these choices, as well, so any choice is a "moving target".

One of the initial choices in the Parental Controls was to Lock it, but
I didn't want that. The only other choices under Parental Control were
"Create Password" and "Go Back". Neither of these were of any use.

    Okay, so, any ideas?

    Thanks,

See, that's very simple information - if the Owner's Manual had only had a diagram outlining the location of the on board controls, I would never have had to come to you with this. Even after your description, it took some looking to find them on the top of television (your description had me looking on the side toward the top, initially, and the only reference I found in the owner's manual had me looking on the side toward the bottom). The channel button was stuck, but I simply couldn't find it. How idiotic.

    Anyway, thanks for your help!

Hi,

Pls post back the exact model number, it would be something like 27F522T stenciled on a sticker or name plate at the rear pf the TV.

Initially, unplug the unit from the mains hopefully to reset the system if it were a glitch for a couple of hours to dissipate whatever stored electrical energy there might be.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back as requested, how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

Appreciate the postback and additional information.

Normally, most RCAs of this series has a set of controls on top right side (not at the front) other than with the use of a remote. In any case, it would seem that your controller boards is faulty. It is either getting mixed signals and reacting to it (flipping) or it is falsely sensing input/control signals and erroneously displaying/reacting to it. The common denominator is the controller/logic board.

If you are considering a DIY (do-it-yourself), this would require a fair familiarity with electronic components and circuitry, perhaps the use of a DVM and a soldering iron. Access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings would be helpful. Should you be uncomfortable going this route, then perhaps your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

If you are to open the unit (with all the precautions and safety procedures in mind), foremost to check would be the big PCB (board at the bottom) specifically the logic circuitry. This section would have the remote receiver wired to it. Additionally, it would have a white multi-terminal connector (where the top controls are plug in if present). You need to check for anything out of the ordinary such as burnt resistor, bulging/blistered capacitor and for the presence of +5VDC. The white connector must be free of dust as well as the small pins of the ICs. These pins are spaced very close together. A clean 2" paint brush would be good for this as well as a vacuum/blower.

Other than that, the service manual would provide you with a check flow (yes/no) for a detailed troubleshooting.

    Cheers.

if the front buttons don't work, it is usually caused by

the TV being set in CHILD LOCK

so got into menu and turn child lock to OFF

Just check this TV by connecting it to on-air programs. Connect external antenna to it, and make an auto tune function. Refer to its user manual for details. If TV do not tune in to on-air channels too, the tuner to your Tv should be checked and replaced. If it receives on-air channels, and only cable channels are missing, you must contact the service provider to your cable connection.

Hi my RCA 27 Truflat tv keeps changing channels , the volume keeps going all the way up and it is turning it's self on and off. What could be the problem and how to fix? THanks

The micro buttons on the tv are causing the problem. Mine kept going up in the channels like you are holding the button down. I took the button board and clipped to prongs on the micro switch to the channel up button. It has three prongs on one side and two on the other that you clip.I use the remote all the time any way and it will not affect that.

The tv will not get but 24 channels Is there a menu setup? I don't see one and does it get more than 24 channels?

there should be a menu button on the TV, once you get there, look for something that can add/delete channels, switch it to add, and then click the button that allows you to scan for channels

RCA TruFlat 27F520T 27" TV Flipping Through Channels

Dear Friend,

All I can suggest is to take the back cover off, and look for signs of "Bulging caps" on the PSU and look for any "dry Joints"..

Remember the tube can hold a charge of 25,000v so if you touch it in the wrong place you will be able to defy gravity.
