Grinding The situation: I have had my Whirlpool DU915PWPB1 for 2 1/2 years, it isn't the greatest dishwasher but does the job
good enough. Recently, the water will fill, the washing cycle will run
but then when that part stops it goes into a whirring that seems like a
motor is going but nothing is moving. I have removed the Filter Modual
in an attempt to find out what the grinding would be. There doesn't
seem to have anything in the way or under the filter. I have
ascertained that the grinding is coming from the "chopper kit" rubbing
up against the "Perforated Plate". It is not going in a different place
I am wondering why, if it's in the correct spot, is it grinding up
againse the plate. I have moved nothing.
Noise probably not from there when reassembled the plate will not be direct contact with screen noise is probably from wash motor itself..suggest checking owners manual for warranty info

Water level failure. Has the machine been moved recently? Make sure the drain hose isn't too low or too far into a stand pipe. Common cause is syphoning causing the water level to drop. Other causes, overfoaming, leaking or faulty Float switch. If you have any questions message me back. The pump is probably not working or nearly seized. I just replaced the part in our dishwasher from BA Filter Supply (best price I could find for a genuine Whirlpool part). Our's took W10239404 Genuine Whirlpool Dishwasher Pump & Motor Assembly for $88
The job is pretty easy to do for someone handy if you can get the dishwasher out and turn it on its back. There is even a Youtube video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjRxJy2IUE8
Most likely source of noise is the coupling which is situated between the motor and the gearbox. Secondary fault can be the gearbox itself, but more likely to be the coupling.
Couplings are very awkward to do unless you know the 'tricks' to 'undressing' the machine.
It would probably be best to call a serviceman.
It is not a big job.
Good luck.......Nomess
Most likely the motor/pump assembly is worn out and grinding. If the machine is less than five years old it is under warranty. If over five years old, the repair part alone is about $150 not including labor.
Motors for tall tub whorlpools are over two hundred dollars. If its less than a year then its under warranty. You did not indicate model. If you can get back to me I'll look more in to seeing if it is feasable to repair or replace.
The dishwasher says kenmore but it is made by whirlpool or frigidaire. If the cost of repair exceed 2/3rds of the cost of a new one it would be best to replace it. Whirlpool makes good models. Their line of kitchenaid seem to be the quietest.
