This did not really fix my problem. I am now getting locked up when I am on the internet and the connection time is still slow although a little better than before. I am getting constant error messages which tell me program is not responding.

Type MSCONFIG in Run box on Start Menu.
Go to StartUp tab. Uncheck any programs you think you do not need.
You can always put them back later by checking the box again if you find you do need it.

Internet running slow

your graphics card will not affect the speed of your internet connection, but may affect the rate of video playback from streaming or downloaded video. when your internet slows down it b/c wither your machine is being overworked or your connection is being flooded.
from my experience, when internet becomes slow, the computer has started taking longer to start up 90% of the time. If this is the case for you, where you have seen a decline in overall performance of your system, you have more than likely been infected by virus, spyware/adware, and have too many programs requesting resources.

press ctrl+alt+del, select the task manager and click the processes tab. then click on the column names "username" two times. this will list all the processes beginning with the ones that started after windows initially started.

if there are anout 20 of them or more than you have programs needlessly running in the background.

you must select all the programs that start automatically and go to the options menu and deselect the box that says "run on system startup"
then run a virus sweep. if you dont have virus, spy/adware, and firewall protection(all 3) then you must get them ASAP. they will save your computer from needing technically assistance as often.

free-avg.com has a great free version that is very easy to use and does most of the work for you

GOOD LUCK

Computer slow

A slow pc could mean alot of things. Virus's, spyware, too many programs running in the backround, and tons of old files, and cookies that need to be cleaned out often.

First download AFT cleaner and get rid of all the temp, files.

http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/atf-cleaner/atfcleaner.html

after you clean all cookies and temp. files, go here and do a full free scan. If it finds anything, it will clean it. It's safe and free.

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
If you have McAfee or Norton it will **** the life out of your computer unless you have at least a 1or 2Gb of ram.

The free virus programs are very good.

http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/avast_Home_Edition/avast.html

or http://www.free-av.com/en/download/1/download_avira_antivir_personal__free_antivirus.html

spyware program

After that, you may have too many programs running in the backround which will also slow you down.

In XP go to run, in Vista , go to start, type " msconfig " to get to startup. General tab, click on selective startup.
On the startup tab uncheck anything you don't want running in the backround. Hit apply and reboot.
Everytime a program gets installed, by default, it's in startup to run whenever pc is on, even if you don't see or need it all the time. By unchecking music players, printer's and even update's they will still work when you need them. Update's for things like Roxio and quicktime are not needed. There is a check for update's to every program.
