I have a HP Pavillion DV6 4000 series 64-bit notebook and am trying to load my canoscan lide 25 scanner. the only drivers I can find are 32 bit and won't install. Can you tell me where I can download the...

You need the TWAIN driver version 11.0.1.1a for Win7 or Vista 64-bit or the WIA 1.2.1.0 driver for Vista onlyand the CanoScan Toolbox version 4.9.3.2. This is from Canon support http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/scanners/canoscan_series/canoscan_lide25?selectedName=DriversAndSoftware#ServiceAndSupport . The detail of the version was found in the support list after querying for Win7 support.

The both files are here: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/scanners/canoscan_series/canoscan_lide25?selectedName=DriversAndSoftware#DriversAndSoftware . Scroll all the way to the bottom of the OS list to the appropriate 64-bit OS (Vista or Windows 7). Vista (x64) is the fourth from the bottom and Win7 (x64) is the third from the bottom of the list.

I hope this helps.

How can I install CanoScan 8800F without the CD?

Yes, you can install the CanoScan even without the CD. You just need to download the driver of the web site for free:

Check the links below, download and install the driver:

Canoscan 8800f error as ''cannot connect with scanner''

I had the same problem with a new canoscan 8800f. I found by connecting the scanner USB lead to a USB 1 .1 port instead of a USB 2.0 port the problem seems to have been was solved. I was fortunate to have both. Originally it was just USB 1.1 ports on my PC, but I added USB 2.0. I don't know how you solve the problem if you only have 2.0 ports.

Cannot communicate with twain devise

I suggest using ISIS drivers instead of TWAIN. I have always had trouble with the twain drivers failing especially in paperport ive found the ISIS drivers to be much more stable.
If you do require TWAIN though best way to fix is un-install the software that the TWAIN driver came with and re-install it. Unfortunately thats the easiest solution.
If you want to try the isis drivers they should be on the cd that you used for the twain drivers just select isis instead.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

I have a Canon scanner 5000f. All of a sudden the computer won't recognize it and says it is "unable to select Twain Source." What do I do?

First you need to follow the instructions for installing the scanner. It is important whether you connect the scanner before the software is installed and whether you work from the new hardware found box or just install the driver as software. It sometimes varies between operating systems as well.

Sometimes the twain files can become corrupted. Since other devices like digital cameras use the twain files they aren’t erased with a driver uninstall or overwritten with an install. If the twain files are gone the driver install will also install them.

Uninstall ScanGear (I think that is the Canon driver software) and remove the scanner if it is still showing in device manager and control panel under scanners. Unplug the USB.
Do a search for twain and delete all you find in the Windows folder. There is probably a folder and several files – delete them all. Do not remove any twain files not in the Windows folder.
Dig out the instructions and reinstall the scanner exactly according to them.

Have uninstalled and reinstalled software for CanoScan LiDE60 and still coming up with 2 error messages - "cannot communicate with scanner" and " unable to open TWAIN source". How do I...

Are you scanning from Toolbox? Make sure the correct scanner is selected in the Settings section.

What OS is this? Try scanning from various applications.
Does the scanner react at all at any time?

Make sure you have installed ScanGear and not just Toolbox.

TWAIN error

Here is an actual e-mail from a Canon tech regarding this problem:

Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding your Canon product

Please accept my apologies for the delay in contacting you regarding the
problems you have been experiencing with your CanoScan D646U.

I shall firstly answer your query regarding the TWAIN drivers. There are four
main TWAIN files that are pre-installed with Windows, TWAIN.DLL, TWAIN_32.DLL,
TWUNK_16.EXE and TWUNK_32.EXE. These are included with the scanner drivers to
ensure that a compatible version of the files are installed, otherwise the
scanner will not work. During installation these files are checked for and, if
a later version is already installed, the versions from the disk will not be
installed. I can assure you that the scanner driver will work OK with version
1.7 of the TWAIN drivers.

For the scanner to communicate correctly the Still Image Services needs to be
running in the background. To check this please open the Control Panel and look
under Services in Admin Tools. Please check to ensure that the Still Image
Service is running correctly.

If all this is OK, I would recommend removing the driver in the following way.
With the scanner still connected go to Device Manager. Under Imaging Devices
right click on the CanoScan D660U and select uninstall. After this please
disconnect your scanners USB lead and remove the rest of the driver using the
DELDRV utility. Before reinstalling the driver you must restart your PC and
then reconnect the scanner.

If there are still problems please check that the driver has installed
correctly. The following files should be shown in the driver section when you
look at the scanner properties in Device Manager.

C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\D064UCPL.DLL
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\D064UFW.DLL
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\D064UFW.INI
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\D064UFW.PLG
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\D064UUD.DLL
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\USBSCAN.SYS
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\SPOOL\DRIVERS\COLOR\CNS60N.ICC
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\SPOOL\DRIVERS\COLOR\CNZ005.ICC
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\UCS32P.DLL
C:\WINNT\TWAIN_32\D64U\CANOIT32.EXE
C:\WINNT\TWAIN_32\D64U\CISDS.DS
C:\WINNT\TWAIN_32\D64U\CSUI.CNT
C:\WINNT\TWAIN_32\D64U\CSUI.DLL
C:\WINNT\TWAIN_32\D64U\CSUI.HLP
C:\WINNT\TWAIN_32\D64U\D064UA.DLL
C:\WINNT\TWAIN_32\D64U\D064UUI.DLL
C:\WINNT\TWAIN_32\D64U\IMGENH.DLL
C:\WINNT\TWAIN_32\D64U\IOP.DLL
C:\WINNT\TWAIN_32\D64U\ITLIB32.DLL
C:\WINNT\TWAIN_32\D64U\LTKRNION.DLL
C:\WINNT\TWAIN_32\D64U\README.TXT
C:\WINNT\TWAIN_32\D64U\SCANINTF.DLL
C:\WINNT\TWAIN_32\D64U\SYSERROR.EXE
C:\WINNT\TWAIN_32\D64U\TPM.DLL

All of the files mentioned above that are listed as being in the TWAIN_32\D64U
folder are the exact files that should appear in that folder if you look in
Windows Explorer.

A further cause of the TWAIN error occurring is if there is a conflict with
another TWAIN compliant device, such as a Digital Camera or scanning device
(including Multifunctional devices. If you have such a device installed try
removing its software before reinstalling the scanner driver.

We hope this information is of use to you. However, should you require any
further technical assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us quoting your
Incident number.
