Not enough space to use Acer Backup Utility (Aspire 3000)

I tried to use the Acer Backup Utility to back up my C: drive. It reports that the image would take 10GB space, and my D: drive has only 9GB free. I have a 120GB external drive attached, but can find no way to redirect the "image path" to it.

The program also will not permit me to burn the image to DVDs or CDRs. (Will it span the image across the media?)

Anyone know a way to do it? Thanks for any help you can provide!

Cick browse after you have chosen to save and your external drive should show up on the pop up menu. The image you are trying to save may be of a format that is not recognizable by your external drive.Or you may have to choose which format you want to save it as from the source.

I WOULD LIKE TO RESTORE TO FACTORY SETTINGS TY

You will loose all data you have put on the computer. When you turn it on right at the beginning there is a black screen and there are a few f key options.
They will flash up with the option when you turned it on, before windows kicks in. Take a look at the user manual to find out for sure.
Press the correct f key before windows starts up, then go through the menus in setup (it will look all crappy and dos like) and find restore factory settings (or something like that) and click yes.
It's a great feature, and will completely kill any virus or **** problems you have had and couldn't get rid of.
Hope this helps. I would appreciate your feed back as I do this for fun not pay.

The eRecovery backup window comes up and I am trying to back up on to an external flash drive. I don't have an external digital opical. But that is all it will let me do Help

A flash drive doesn't have enough storage capacity to to a backup. There are however, external harddrives that have more than enough space to back up your computer.

My Acer 5315 Data as only 3.01Gb free of 32.5 Gb do I need a New Hard Drive to get more Ram

More RAM will not help because your RAM is temporary memory. You can uninstall the software you dont use or backup your documents/pictures/music to an external source and delete them from your hard drive. Another option is to use the Disk Cleanup utility to rid your system of temporary files that are taking up space or get an external hard drive to backup your files to.

Acer says to create the restore CD's, you should:

Boot to Windows XP
2 Press <Alt> + <F10> to open the Acer eRecovery Management utility.
3 Enter the password to proceed. The default password is six zeros.
4 In the Acer eRecovery Management window, select Recovery settings and
click Next.
5 In the Recovery settings window, select Backup snapshot image and
click Next.
6 Select the backup method.
a Use Backup to HDD to store the backup disk image on drive D:.
b Backup to optical device to store the backup image on CD or DVD.
7 After choosing the backup method, click Next.
Follow the instructions on screen to complete the process.

If you cannot do this, you should email Acer support to order the CDs.

How do I do a full recovery with the disc

Turn your computer on.

Insert the Disk and choose to enter BIOS, should be F2 but watch the screen to see the right function key.

Change the boot device order to: CD-ROM, HDD in that order.

Save changes and restart the computer.

The Recovery Disk would boot up and a wizard will guide you through the recovery process.

Follow the instructions to recover your computer.

The first thing you need to decide is what you are going to use to backup your files: (1) An external hard drive (2) A flash drive or (3) CD or DVD.

A USB flash drive is probably the easiest way to go. Small...and fast. You can get a 4GB or 8GB one for $20-$40. If you have a lot of pictures/music/video files, you may need a larger external drive. I saw Staples advertise a 500GB USB one last week for $99.

If you are running Windows, there should be a backup utility under
All Programs>Accessories>System Tools. You can choose whatever files you wish to backup.

Unless I am mistaken, the D drive or partition is the partition that contains the restore feature for yor laptop. This may or may not be hidden system files. As far as the available free space on your C drive, you WILL need to either delete files and/or backup and delete files. Image files, music files, cookies temp files take up a lot of disk space. Try this and I think you will find more free space. BPCS
