After removing 1 or 2 screws on the side cover, that side cover should come off with a good tug. Janome also puts tabs on the side cover to help hold it on, and they do stick sometimes. If you can get your whole hand over the entire cover, get a good grip on it, and just give it firm yank.

the face plate either has hinges at the back so you gently pull on it to open
or there is a plug with a hidden screw,,carefully use a screw driver to get the plug out & then remove the screw & take off the door & change the bulb

How do i open the side door on my janome 1018s where the neddles and light is

On some sewing machine the door is called Lamp Cover Door & has a hinge at the back of the door,, gently pull toward the back of the machine to open the door & the light bulb should be easy to get to.
Some are called Face Plate-there should be a plug in the middle of the door-remove gently with a small screw driver- there should be a small screw to remove-the door should come off easily--change bulb--replace screw-replace plug

How do i change the lightbulb on my Janome 6019 sewing machine?

On most sewing machines the light bulb is located inside the faceplate on the left hand side of your machine.
http://www.janome.com/documents/File/ManualFile/6019QC.pdf
The faceplate is part number 17 in this manual.
One that has been removed, the bulb should be visible. You will need to look at the old bulb to see if it a screw type or a bayonet type, in order to replace it with a new one.
If this is not correct try the Janome website for advice, they have a forum and an ask Jan section for problems etc.

I have a Janome 5700, the light has burnt out and there is no directions in manual for changing it, I also cannot find the burnt out light. Can you help. Thanks Penny

Most sewing machine lamps are located inside the face cover on the left hand side of your machine. It should pull open as it is hinged at the back and clicks into place when you close it. The lamp will be visible to you when you open your machine. It will either need a bayonet or screw type bulb replacement. You will need to look at the broken bulb in order to see what type your machine needs.
http://www.janome.com/documents/File/ManualFile/MC5200.pdf
If you look at page 4 of this manual, which is similar to your machine, you will see the face cover is part number 11. In the smaller picture below you can make out the hinge on the back of the machine that allows you to open the face cover like a door. Hope this helps!
