Question about Cooktops
Stove was working fine and then the burners just won't light when I turn it on. There's no clicking any more but I still smell gas. I can light the burners manually although when I turn to LOW or WARM they tend to go out. I can't find replacement ignition switches for my Sterling cooktop Model No. GCT360, manufactured in 1988. The company in UK does not respond to my inquiry, while the Sterling Service Center in Sharon, Massachusetts has apparently gone out of business.

If any of the 5 burner switches are sending a signal to the spark module to light a burner, most gas cooktops have a wire from each burner control to the spark module to send a spark to all burners. Shut the power off, pull the wires off from each control to the spark module control and reapply power . Test each one at a time to determine which is the culprit. Could be more than one but usually only one.

SOURCE: igniters are not working right
when you turn any burner control to lite all ignitors should click this is normal industry wide. the ignitors are controlled by switches that are placed over the valve shafts they are wired up together so thats why they all click when you only operate one valve don't worry about it. the ignitor stays on untill you back the valve off a tad this is also normal.

Go to RepairClinic.com and check on how much a new igniter is. Is there two or 4 igniters on your model (lift the top of the range up and it is the little silver piece sticking out with a white base around it), If its 2 is the other side working? Make sure there is no food deposits around where the gas and the spark meet.
