I need the firmware of the gc-822

You should be able to download the driver here: http://www.elementelectronics.com/support_downloads.html

Just select "GC-820" on the dropdown menu after "MP3 Players"
Then, click "Get Driver"
It should start downloading it to your computer.

(FYI: GC-820, GC-821, GC-822 and GC-823 are all the same model of MP3 player, they're just different colors)

Since you posted this under "Mac Laptops", though, I'm not sure the driver will help you out. According to Element Electronics' website (http://www.elementelectronics.com/products/mp3_players/2g-gc-800/2g-gc-800.html), it looks like the MP3 player is only compatible with Windows machines.
If you *are* on a Mac, try just plugging your MP3 player into the computer and see if your computer recognizes it.

Hope this helps!
I'm not sure if this MP3 player will work on a Mac though. Plug it in and see if it shows up in Finder.

When you connect the player to a computer with the USB cable you are able to explore the device as a Removable Disk, just like
exploring the computer in Windows.
The player should show up as a volume with a letter of the alphabet.
The USB device is 2G sized and should contain a map for pictures.
For transferring pictures see page 29 of the manual:
http://www.cobyusa.com/files/manuals/MP610_MN.pdf
Briefly worded:
1. Explore your computer for the desired pictures in jpg format.
2. Next use the copy and paste method.
or
1. Open the pictures map on the computer + map on the player.
2. Next drag and drop pictures from the computer onto the players map.

COBY MP610-2G - FILE SYSTEM ERROR

you may have to get a firmware update
(download to computer, install utility, wire up player, run update..)

you will find firmware, specs sheet and manual for download here:

http://www.cobyusa.com/?p=doc

after doing the update, access player via win-explorer, erase all the mp3s(do not format!, as this will erase the firmware as well)
and drag and drop your new mp3/files onto the player.

unplug, press play and if everything is right: enjoy listening

Is the screen leaking, is there damage from where you dropped it? It is not covered by the companys warranty. If the screen in leaking, or there are signs of damage, they will not replace it. But if not, they will never know. SanDisk Technical Support 1-866-726-3475 Best of Luck.
