General question Does it hurt to put aluminum foil in the bottom of the oven? It is a self cleaning oven. Don't want to ruin the appliance. Thank you in advance.

My husband melted aluminum foil onto the bottom of the oven. I need a safe way to try and clean it off

I don't know of any way to remove that (and I'm a professional appliance repairman with 10 years experience). If your oven has a separate, removable oven bottoms, you can replace that without too much trouble, but if your oven cavity is all 1 piece, you will have to live with it.

Single element stove oven, doesn't get hot enough

Your oven probably has a feature called a hidden bake element. The element is located beneath the floor of the oven. (Because of this, NEVER put aluminum foil on the bottom of the oven because it will get hot enough to melt the aluminum foil and make it bond to the bottom of your oven.) You can adjust the temperature of your oven through the electronic oven controls. Check your owner's manual for how to do this.

How do you clean a convection oven with aluminum foil burnt at the bottom?

Hello,This is why we say no foil on the bottom...I would put it in self clean and see if it burns it off most of the time it will. You can take the two screws out of the back corners of the oven bottom and remove the bottom and soak it too. Hope this helps...Please rate me Thank You

It appears to get to hot i put foil in bottom to

The manufacturers of most kitchen ranges recommend that you DO NOT put foil on the oven bottom. Although, you may have good intentions, it causes problems just like the one you mentioned. It can cause uneven heating, inaccurate oven temperatures, or an oven to become too hot. If this is an ELECTRIC range, it can even cause premature failure of the heating elements. In some cases, if the oven is too hot, the foil can become seriously affixed to bottom oven pan which becomes extremely difficult to remove. It is recommend that you routinely check the oven after each use, allow to cool and clean as necessary with an approved oven cleaner (yes, they even make these cleaners for self-cleaning ovens) to keep stains and spills to a minimum. If you have questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Aluminum foil melted to bottom of oven. how can I

If the foil is melted to the bottom, most oven liners are porcelain, so it will probably scrape off fairly easy. You want to try something non-metallic first. If you need to use something metallic to scrape it off be very careful not to scrape or chip the porcelain, you might try a scraper used to clean glass top cooktops. Remember porcelain is glass, so make sure you wear eye protection.

I did that, too. Self cleaning won't help. You need to replace the bottom pan. Around $20 I think.
