It constantly says unable to read the disc and to eject the disc and go to the troubleshooting part of the manual, I don't have it here. Is it broken? Can I reset it??

unable to read disc- please eject the disc, turn off the console, and consult the manual- i cleaned all of the discs the way it says- nothing works- it makes a squealing sound when you put a disc in to play- you can hear it spinning and squealing, but it won't work- then the light goes off and it's finished- this happened after i bought the Mario Olympics game and a new controller- the next day, it stopped working on everything!! i can't afford a new one- please help!

On the wii menu, everytime when I put a game disc in, it would say it is unable to read disc. I tried a different game disc and it said the same thing.

Hello there

From what you have said it sounds like you have the DISK READ ERROR

The main causes are Hardware failure, overheating or wear & tear.

You may need to perform simple maintenance, clean or in some cases adjust settings.

To get the best advice on where to start I recommend a Wii Repair Guide , From this you can fix the problem at home and avoid any large repair bills. Its easier than it sounds when you have help from the guide.

The other solution would be to send the console off to Nintendo, This is free if your still in warranty. If your console is out of warranty then the usual price of repair is $90-$150

Glad I could Help!

Good Luck & Best Regards

Wii consol unable to read discs

Wii is probably defected or Lens is screwed up or needs to get clean!  Happened to me!!!
Point number 1: Try getting dust out the fan... or try 2:by a lens cleaner the wii won't probably read it but it will try to so put alcohol or if it already comes with one , on the all brushes of the disc. And put it in your wii let it try to read. and when it saids it cannot read take it out and do what is listed next below which i wrote:
this will probably fix it do that about 3 times.

My 360 keeps saying unreadable disk no matter what game i put in

Ok, this is optical lens assembly failure. the lens is burned out and unable to scan due to lens failure. simply replacing the dvd rom optical lens assembly will restore the reading ability of your unit.

Not reading disc

If Wii gives Disc Read Error, First step you need to check is to try another disc or clean the exisitng disc. This will confirm that problem is with either Wii or Disc. If the console itself is giving disc read error then it needs to be repaired. You may check out DIY Wii Fix Guide, that will show step by step information to fix the problem yourself. Unable to read wii discs

I had the same problem, I take it you have a modded wii(chipped), if you use a backup disc it is of a lower quality then original discs, the wii gets read errors without you noticing and tries to read those disc areas again sometimes suceeding and the gaming goes on, sometimes it fails, and a disc read error occurs. Over time the dvd assembly will take some damage it will loose it rigidity it once had and the wii stops reading discs. The problem gets worse if you have standing up, so first thing si to flip it down and try. Otherwise you (or someone you trust) will have to open the wii and adjust the lens sled so it wont flap as much up and down. Hope this helps..

Wont read discs

If it only does this for this one game, you may have a defective game disc, it happens. Often, if you have just recently purchased it, you can return it to the store and tell them that it was defective and get a new one. If not, you can always try cleaning it though I doubt that's the problem.
nintendo.com says "If after reading the above information you are still unable to play a game disc, please call 1-800-255-3700 to discuss available options."
