This Amana PLE8607L2 electric dryer is about 12 years old. A couple years ago when operating the Auto. Perm. Press moisture sensor cycle, it started making a very loud rumbling noise coming from drum. I stopped it, opened dryer, and it was very hot; clothes had gotten overdried. Might have thought moisture sensor had failed, but that didn't explain rumbling noise. When I used dryer after that, was careful to monitor that cycle. The problem didn't always occur, but over time it became more frequent until it was impossible to use that cycle without the problem, so I stopped using it altogether. When I needed moisture sensor, I used the Auto. Regular cycle. After a period of time, this cycle started doing same thing. Eventually it was a constant problem, too, so I had to stop using it altogether. For many months now, I've just used the Timed Dry cycle. Yesterday it started with the loud rumbling and the excessively high heat. My husband is pretty handy and might be able to fix the dryer if we knew what might be wrong with it. I'd like to fix it because I really like the dryer and would prefer to not have to shell out for a new one. Any ideas of what the problem might be?
