Replacing the foot pedal

Ordered the new part and am not able to take off the old one to replace.  The original foot pedal piece is broken and no longer snaps and hold the upright in place.  I have not been able to take out the pin that holds the broken piece in place.

I am working on this too. Prying/pushing... Guess the spring is holding on tightly.

There is two C clips on the pin that must be removed first. then the pin will come out. if you need a picture of this or have any other trouble feel free to let me know. I also stock those foot pedals if you need one.

If you wouldn't mind emailing me pictures of how to remove & install one of these, I'd appreciate it. Also, I'd like to know how much one of the foot pedals you have would cost. You can email me at rocnarmood@hotmail.com Thanks.

where are the 2 clips? only found one: cwalshcya@yahoo.com

There was only one c-clip on my model. I just removed it by pulling it out with needle nose pliers. Then, I just wiggled the pin and it began sliding out. THANKS SO MUCH! Until I saw your post about the c-clip, I was about to give up. BTW, if someone needs a foot pedal, I ordered mine from www.vacshopusa.com. Their price, including s/h was less than $20. They also shipped quickly. Again, thanks for telling me about the c-clip!

Broken foot pedal riccar 8850

Remove the assembly that holds the foot pedal by removing the three screws after you've removed the bottom plate and brush roll. This allows you to get the nozzle housing out of the way so you can rotate the assembly holding the foot pedal from the metal pivot. Remove the e clips from the shaft and pull the shaft out of the foot pedal (be sure to look closely at the spring and how the shaft are positioned so you can be sure to install them exactly the same way you took them off. It is not a hard job but can be confusing the first time. It's not an expensive fix to have done by your Riccar dealer.

Remove hose adaptor for eureka maxima to replace with new one

We banged on the black rubbery part that holds the hard plastic adapter in place until the old adapter was broken into pieces then removed the pieces. The new adapter just simply snapped into the rubbery black connector piece. I then used a screw driver to scrape the gasket out of the old adapter and put it into the new one.

Model 8975-C - broken foot lever

I'm fairly upset with Bissell over this issue and considering switching to a better brand after constantly having to replace this item on every vacuum of theirs I've had. It is shocking that they would have a part that gets stomped by your foot and jerked with the entire weight of the vacuum made out of cheap plastic. The curved piece acts like a spring to hold the vacuum upright. Can you imagine a curved leaf spring made out of plastic?? In any case, they call this an "internal part" and therefore not user serviceable. You have to call their 800 number to get a dealer local to you, usually a sewing and vacuum place, and then get them to sell you the part. Otherwise, you are going to have to take the vacuum to them and have the dealer replace it.

Foot operated release "spring" is broken. Replaceable?

Remove the pieces of the old spring and take it to any OSH store, they have an assortment that will likely have one that will work.

Front drops down when lifted

MaryEllen, This vac is only $250 to replace. By your description, the part you may have broken is called a pedal release lever. Very inexpensive to replace, under $7.00; Yes, you can replace it yourself, it does not go in too easy or the old one may not come out too easy. I would suggest that someone you trust that is handy look at it. I would also make sure the socket in which the pedal snaps into has not been damaged or cracked. You can inspect it with a light by turning it over. if there are cracks or damage to the base unit, the cost is higher but can be cost effective for repair

Foot Pedal was knocked out of alignment

You will have to take the top loose so you can put the handle release in its place. It probably isn't in the right place, either that or a piece of it broke off and it needs to be replaced.
