What speed should I be getting with wifi

Hello, John -

Your WiFi speed depends upon your Internet service provider (ISP.) What speed did you contract for?

You can check your actual WiFi speed with the Ookla Speed Test (recommend by an AT&T U-verse technician):
http://www.speedtest.net/

If your actual WiFi speed is much less than what you are paying for, then contact your ISP and ask that a technician check the WiFi connection. Note: That may mean a technician will be scheduled to come to your home or place of business (wherever the WiFi connection is located) and you or someone else will need to be there. Plus, you will probably need to provide your customer account number and another form of ID when you call the ISP customer support number.

Best wishes.

Mutant wifi,fm radio instruction manual,I want to know the steps to get wifi connected, from start to finish, please and thank you.

http://www.audioholics.com/home-theater-connection/how-to-set-up-wireless-router-wifi
Point 6 update the firmware - some routers won't operate on windows 8 until you log into the router and upgrade it.
Also you may want to select an actual channel number rather than set to auto as you can increase channel number by 3 to avoid interference from neighbours.

I have netgear router in my office and its working fine but every synomious we are lossing wifi connectivity but in router all the lights are blinking so every time i have to restart the router

Best solution if a hard reset doesn't cure this then you need to do a soft reset or change the dchp to a higher value for the conflict to correct itself.SOFT reset ....first go to your routers IP address ...usually on the router but you can google it.for example netgear routers it is 192.168.0.1 then enter in lower case admin : admin sometimes you have to enter a capital A for admin.
then look for reset restart and it will fix from the ISP end which is different to just restarting router.check if you can update the firmware whilst on that page.if connectivity still drops then you next best approach is to change the dchp settings in your internet settings.for example change the number from 192.168.0 .? To 192.168.0.20 this is not the DNS but dchp.you can google this workaround.good luck.

I have a compaq laptop which i've had for a year or so. My laptop connects fine with every other internet broadband but not our new home one, and every other laptop in the house connects to this internet...

Compaq Presario V6000T now retired at HP (zero support)
ok its old. 12 long years old now!@!!
first learn that old laptops do not have modern wifi chips.
like other PCs have, a fact.
the answer is Encryption modes.
WEP , WPA or WPA2.
in my home we have WPA2 ONLY AT THE ROUTER.
for security reasons and no old laptop works with WPA2
then learn other homes running old gear, routers.
have WEP on only
and most new PC have that disabled, or gone now.
WEP is net secure now at all so is gone.

now lets answer you in more basic forum
why not learn to setup the PC and your router the correct way.
if your PC only does WEP/WPA (look does it?)
then
in the router, turn that on. if using wep turn it on, and know that you homes router can be hacked easy.
if you have WPA, turn that on, and use only that if the PC can not use WPA2. use WPA for sure, at LEAST.
turn off TKIP (use AES mode) too,.

im reading your PC spec now.
what wifi?
it has 802.11b/g
in most cases we must find out what wifi chip is there.
and what OS you run, you never said windows what?
then get the newest driver for that wifi chip.
some are not available.
finding the chip true name is not easy.
I can but I have powerful scanners.
the cure is , use the unsafe protocol
or upgrade the driver,
or buy wifi dongle USB (new) and use it. easy and cheap.
use WPA2 only. if wise.

next time post what OS you have
nobody can match working drivers lacking that key fact
is this stinking XP the DEAD OS? or vista? it too is now dead.

Cannot connect to the internet, when all other puters in my home can . I have wireless internert.i have a gateway model m-7315u. Its an Intel pentium.I have windows vista

This can be several things.

Do you have anything else using the wifi to connect? If it is working then we can rule out the router wifi hardware as a problem.

Can you connect to any other wifi using your gateway? If you can then the problem isn't you hardware.

Can you see other computers on your wifi net but not get out to the Internet? Then the problem is you need to change your settings to include a gateway number. This will be the ip number of the router.

If you can't see any computer or when you look at status you see that the received packets of the connection are zero or very low compared to sent then the problem is most likely not having the security settings correct. This is a WEP key or WPA key that unlocks/unscrambles the signal.

Cannot open internet when trying to get wifi

Hi,

Ok - few things to clarify first:

When you say "it connects" what do you mean? Do you open internet explorer and can browse the net without problem?

You Pick up Wifi connections - make sure you pick the correct one to connect to and ensure that you use the correct Password.

If all the above are working then make sure the Laptop is rebooted when you attempt to connect to wifi. Msn has problems when it can not resolve correct IP address - rebooting the machine should fix that.

Or the connection speed is too slow - which these days can still happen.

Finally, Get the full error message from msn and type it into google. Guide yourself to the Microsoft pages with the correct solution.

So few things to clarify and few things to test out.

I hope this helps, don't forget to rate my solution.

Thanks.
