This may be a problem with the speedometer cable. From the back of the gauges there is a thick cable that goes to the transmission. Check if it is loose or there is wear. You may have to unhook it or apply grease to it or replace it. Otherwise it could be the gear inside the transmission which counts the rotation that is faulty or loose.
