Wester Digital My Book 1 TB problems

I connected my WD My Book to a new computer I just got with an eSata input. The first time the new computer booted up with the drive attached it seemed to struggle a little but finally the boot completed and I was able to open the WD drive and view pictures I had on it. I then shut the new computer down and when I went to start the computer the next day it hung up during boot and I noticed that theis time the LED display on teh front of teh My Book did not illuminate at any time. After some time of being ung up I reboote the computer and then it came up but without the My Book Starting up.
Also now the drive won't respond even on the USB 2 port when I connected ti to another computer I had been using it with. Anybody got anyidea what happened?

Try booting your computer first and then connect the usb cable to the usb port on the computer. Connect the power supply cord directly to a wall socket. Also try the usb cable on different usb ports on the computer. If possible also try it with a different usb cable. If nothing works, check the file format system under disk management, you might have to re-format it.

Why western digita my book elite is sooooooooooo slow coping the data

The speed of copying depends on the speed of the USB ports on your computer, which is either the original USB 1.1 specifications, or the newer USB 2.0 specifications, which is at least FIVE times faster.

So, if your (older) computer has a USB 2.0 interface, connect the W.D. to it, rather than to a USB 1.1 interface.

My 1 tb WD hard drive isn't even being recognized

If the 1 tb is spinning up, which I assume it is, the new PC (assuming a Win 7 OS) should see it and mount a driver to be able to talk with it. I would double check all my connections at the drive and the PC, try different USB ports just in case one is dead.

MY Western Digital 1 TB drive operates fine with a USB 2.0 cable but won't even turn on when I connect an ESATA cable or my firewire cable. Am I stuck with USB as my only connection option?

Some of it may depend on the controler you are using. some of the VIA chipset ones are not all that good and overheat a little causing ptoblems.

Also make sure you do have the firewaire card in your computer.

Many cases have the connection on them but no card inside.
Same for E-SATA.

Double check inside first !

NO, they are not all multivoltage. Especially if you bough *** in the states as a 110v. You will need to have an external voltage adaptor in use.

ESATA Connection problem with My Book & my laptop w/ Vista

Had the same problem with a WD esata 1TB drive and an HP DV6 laptop. Using Vista home premium. Lots of experimentation BIOS settings and driver update, and finally fixed it by trimming back a couple of mm of the plastic shoulders on each connector of the esata cable. A few depth measurements and it became clear that the connectors weren't going in deep enough otherwise. The cable was a Belkin of reasonable quality.

No problems now, but the drive is only recognized if it's connected at boot-up.

The core of the problem is the external casing of both the laptop and the WD drive enclosure. They're thick and keep the cable connector from going in far enough. Perhaps manufacturers of the cables or the esata devices are sloppy, or the standard isn't specified well enough. I've seen pictures of esata cables that have significantly different dept.

The red light is staying on on my Acomdata 1TB Puredrive USB Esata 1 TB Hard Drive and the computer will not recognize it.

I would say take the drive out and if you have SATA connectors on your motherboard, connect it directly to you computer and see if the computer will recognize it.  If it does, your enclosure is bad.
