My Camera Rebel XT wont download the pictures. I get the message that Microsoft Document Reader is not compatible with this device! I dont know whats wrong. Can you help me?

Have you tried NOT connecting your camera to your computer? The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Use a card reader to download the pics to a folder you create on the desktop. From there, you can send the pictures to a photo editing program or just double-click the folder to view the pictures. My Camera Rebel XT wont - typrice_181.jpg

My canon rebel xt digital camera stopped working when I try to download my pictures. I keep getting an error message that says "cameralauncher.exe has stopped working." I uninstalled and...

If you haven't got this working yet let me offer a few suggestions.
It may be that the computer you are using has gone through an auto update or you have changed software. The Rebel XT is old enough that the camera firmware may not be compatible to the updated computer software. You may be able to update the camera firmware by going to the Canon site and download the updates they are free.

Or you can step around the camera by using a Memory Card reader. The reader is plugged into a USB port and the computer looks at it as an external Hard Drive or Mass Storage device.

You picture files can be downloaded to the computer Hard Drive and then the memory card needs to be "ejected" don't just pull it out the computer doesn't like it.

Once the memory card is placed back in the camera the memory card needs to be formatted and you are good to go again.

My PC will recognize my Canon Rebel XT, but it will not download the pictures. What do I need to do to get my pictures downloaded?

First of all....use a usb card reader...rather than downloading directly from the camera. I believe you use a cf card in your canon. Using the reader simply insert the card into the reader.....and download it to whatever file (and location on your pc) name you want. then bring up the image in whatever photo editing software you use. I use photoshop....but you necessarily need that program. many people use photoshop le, etc. hope that helps.
