Open it up,
check your speaker connections.
Check your antenna connections, Radio & Antenna
Check inside your mic connector for a broken solder joint on one of the pins. Otherwise, it could be a bad audio chip.
Maybe even a break at the antenna connector inside the radio.
If none of these, Radioshack has a reasonable repair service on many radios, cobra is made by uniden, who makes radioshack radios as well.

Why is humming coming from speaker when mic is keyed?

this is strange as most times if a proper transmit key is depressed , then the radio switches from receive to transmit , the mfg know this would cause some great squeal from receiver /transmitting so close to a receiver so the part that is the receiver is muted to keep this from happening , id say there is some fault in the part that does this muting of receiver

No receive audio no receive signals but transmits

If you have a schematic and a service manual try tuning the receive . If that doesn't work use it for parts .You can't buy another and that is the only way that is cheaper .the radio ,new/used will cost less than a tech will charge to repair it.

I have an almost new Midland 75-822 that the WX works fine on, but the CB doesn't seem to receive, or transmit. It operates normally, but no reception, and no evidence of transmissions.

you'll need a schematic and some knowledge. there a two diodes that control the rx and two that control the dx.Check them to make sure they are producing the correct power out put if they are not you should replace all 4

I hav a 29ltd classic cobra cb radio i had it tweaked first did not notice a diference in transmission but reception is still normal then i installed a rxf 75 amp and my reception decreased and everyone...

Receive amps on a Linear's can cause this issue---the key question is what is the dead key wattage in the radio adjusted to?

You hook an amp up--jumper cable length between amp and radio is critical---the power output of radio is critical--put 4 watts into a 75 watt amp and it will be over driven-- The proper way here is with radio and amp hooked to a big dummy load adjust the radio wattage output so the radio keys up the amp and gives maximum forward swing on a watt meter. (in some cases as little as 1 watt output from radio)

Some people call this matching the radio to the amp---The antenna system then becomes involved--further adjustment of the radio with the antenna system connected will be needed (power output) for the amp to work well.

If just a 29 LTD lowest Swr should be on channel 20.

Note: also important to check the swr with the Amp on as if power is being reflected back at radio when amp is on more needs to be done.

CB receive volume is low to out on the output. Weatherband output and reception is fine. Any suggestions?

The problem could be with the mic. If there is a problem with the mic it will make either the receive not work, or the volume seem real low. The weather will work fine if the mic is bad.

Make sure your squelch is not on, keep it all the way to the left and the RF Gain must be all the way to the right...

I have a cobra 20 ltd and i cued it up with a break in my antenna wire, and now i have no reception, but i have power

Replace the antenna wire.

If that does not fix it, the RF energy that reflected back blew out the transmit section of the radio and the receive section.

Reception is very poor. Grounding issues? Please

Reception has little to do with grounding. The ground plan is for transmitting. As long as the coax is connected and is in good standing, it should receive fine regardless of grounding.

There are a few reasons you may have bad reception.
  1. Turn the RF GAIN all the way up. This is your receive sensitivity.
  2. Squelch is too high. It should only be turned up enough to cut out the background noise.
  3. Poor antenna. If the antenna is cheap, and not made well, this could be the problem.
  4. Not enough of the antenna above the vehicle. It needs to be at least 60% of the antenna above the vehicle.
Hope this helps!

Hi, This is a link to your old post re SWR 3.... As stated SWR 3 is too high, it should be 1.5 or lower. Fiberglass antenna are kinda notorious in setup and experience wise have not performed well or at all. Maybe you should try a different antenna (metal rod). Some good brands/models I have tried with very good results are K40, Hokushin, Comet, Oscar, Maldol, Daiwa. To check if you can receive, stick an ordinay length of wire ('bout 9' long) at the center of your radio's connector. RX should work (pls don't key the mic or TX).
