The D3100 works with the MC-DC2 remote release cord. You can get one from your Nikon dealer or direct from Nikon at
http://shop.nikonusa.com/store/nikonusa/en_US/pd/productID.213506400

A third-party equivalent is available at

I do not now how to set my remote control mode on my Nikon3100

There is no remote mode on the D3100. The D3100 doesn't work with the ML-L3 infrared remote. It uses the MC-DC2 wired remote or equivalent. Simply plug the MC-DC2 into the D3100. You can then use the button on the remote the same way you normally use the shutter release button on the camera.

I do not now how to set my remote mode on my nikon 3100

Sorry, but the D3100 doesn't work with the ML-L3 infrared remote. It uses the MC-DC2 wired remote or equivalent.
With the MC-DC2, you don't need to set a remote mode. Simply plug the MC-DC2 into the D3100. You can then use the button on the remote the same way you normally use the shutter release button on the camera.

Fitting IR sensor om D3100

You cannot use the ML-L3 with the D3100. There are other wireless remotes available for this camera, though not from Nikon. There also are various wired remotes available, including the MC-DC2 from Nikon. There are no external IR sensors for the D3100.

Fitting infrared attachment on D3100

The ML-L3 cannot be used with the D3100. An alternative wireless remote is this one. It's not an external IR port but a radio receiver.
