Memory stick upgrade 2 512, 2 1GB what order do I put them in

On the motherboard they should be labeled as to which slot is Dimm 1, Dimm 2, Dimm 3 and Dimm 4. Put the larger ones (1GB) in Dimm 1 and Dimm 2. The smaller ones (512MB) in Dimm 3 and Dimm 4.

I would like to upgrade the e-machine T6414 to 4 GB - 4 or two memory chips. What manufacturer will provide the best price for the right product? What is the type of memory I have to purchase? thank you

Welcome to Fixya!

You are right, the maximum RAM that your machine can take is 4gb. To maximize the capability of the machine, it is always recommended to have the ram chips in pairs.

I have used Kingston in the past and I have always been happy with them. I also work for an online computer store, and we have always used Kingston for our ram upgrades.

The type of RAM that you need is a PC3200 (400MHz) non-ECC Unbuffered CL3 DIMM. Kingston's part number for the 2gb kit (2 pcs of 1gb ) is KVR400X64C3AK2/2G and you can get two of this kit to give you 4gb.

I hope this helps. Happy Holidays!

Want to upgrade memory to 2 GB. Desktop will not post up with 2x1GB cards. Every 2-3 seconds it makes a sound/tone. The fans would turn on but there is no signal to the monitor. However, it will post up...

There is no reset just because you added memory.

If you have 2- 1GB sticks, try both , one at a time.

Your system spec's and manual tell nothing which dimm banks are suppose to be used , and if you can install 2-1GB sticks,
all it says is it can handle 2GB.

Now it says 512MB, sticks, this could mean you can only use 4-512MB sticks to get too 2GB,.

Now it does not tell which dimms are used if you have 2-1GB sticks,

You have 4 slots, the first two and the second two, most times, you either use the second bank of each pair, or the first slot of each pair,
but as I said, your system does not say.

So you can try both ways and see if one of them work.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but you system has a poor manual
on memory placement.

New ram memory on dell dimension celeron trying to

You should check with the folks at Dell since whoever wrote their technical manuals for this machine can't do basic math. There are 2 memory slots and each can handle a maximum capacity of 512MB, yet they claim the maximum capacity for the machine is 2GB instead of 1GB. Using 512MB modules would probably work.

Can I add 1GB memory chip in 2nd slot with a 512MB chip in 1st?

You can upgrade by inserting a 1GB PC2100 DDR SDRAM DIMM. I would put the 1MB in the first slot and move the 512MB chip to the second slot.
The 1GB should cost around $40.

Want to add memory to Gateway 700x

Max memory is 2GB, i.e. 1GB per slot(DIMM), so you will need 2 X (SimpleTech 1 GB PC3200 400MHz DDR RAM). {Always use matched pairs only}
