Sony VPL CS2 Multimedia Projector

Sony projector polarisation filters

By Green1 - usenet poster

Hi all

I hope somebody can help me.  I've just been given a Sony VPL-CS2 projector.
It has a problem and the previous owner couldn't be bothered with it and
just bought a new one.

Everything works fine hunky dory, EXCEPT for wayyy too much blue in the
overall image.  This blue fills most of the image, with the exception of the
edges.

Firstly, would I be correct in diagnosing a polarisation filter problem?
Burnt?

Secondly, if the answer to my first question is yes, can anybody point me in
the direction of a supplier of the above part in the UK (preferably with an
online presence)?

Many thanks.

could you not at least have looked up the projector in question, so you knew
what you were advising on?

i mean, mistaking an LCD projector for a CRT one is pretty fucking lame,
don't you think?

mong-tastic, in fact!

flip-flop (just like the R1 is better than R2 crap)

NO it fucking is not you simpleton, it's a fucking TV & works in a very
different way. Lets be honest now Nath, you bought a TV (not projector) you
fucked it up whilst still in warranty by fitting material in the cabinet,
you twatter on all day about subwoofers & you are banned from the avforums.
Exactly how are you qualified to tell anyone about any fucking thing at all?
You aren't,. you're a COCK.

Now please stop filling other folks brains with your shit & take a day off
being a big steaming pile of Elephant shit.

When you have actually taken the time to check what your spouting about &
have some real life experience (as in OWNED) of what you are blathering on
about come back & see us.

You make it easy for me to abuse you as you are a complete fucking idiot, I
know I'm a foulmouthed cunt with an opinion, but I find folk dislike me for
my swearing, they dislike you as you don't seem to know you're talking out
yer arseflap but everyone else does!

neither of which qualifies you to talk about LCD projectors, you 'tard

What would be your advice for my panny AE100, as the colours are looking a
little washed out?  buy an SVS sub, and it'll make me no longer care about
the picture quality?  or perhaps i could buy an Apex DVD player, which will
catch fire and burn my cinema room down, also aleviating the problem?

i'll leave Nige to come up with a suitable closing statement, as he's far
more talented in that area.

The problem is there on VGA and composite inputs.  Haven't tried another
source.

I had another fault finding session last night, and I've come to the
conclusion that it is the blue LCD panel.  With the polaristation filter
removed, the image showed distortions in the same region as with the filter
in place.  An almost all white image appears ALMOST fine, but an all black
image has a horrible large blue blob.  Shame really, a free projector would
have been cool.  Local Sony Center reckons a new LCD panel will set me back
??389+VAT.

Ignore remploy Nath, he didn't even bother to look for the projector before
going into super bullshit mode.

I would reckon your projector has a blue LCD panel fault that wont be easy
to rectify without visiting a dealer (they know nother either!)

Is it there on ALL inputs etc?

Not at all. I don't have experience with his LCD PJ, initially it sounded
like the blue was out, then phosphur problem (as I thought it was CRT) and
needs correcting. Then once he's mentioned it's a LCD I gave common LCD
problems; dust blobs & blue set high.

Doesn't matter if it's a CRT, DLP, LCD or whatever. The image can still be
too blue.

But instead of actually helping the guy before you just come and act the
troll. Sad really.

Could just be blue drive and/or blue cut pots/settings have been
accidentally knocked. You'll need Avia to check.

Thanks for the quick response.

Even though the blue doesn't cover the whole image? The left and top edges
in particular are spot on. It's like there's a blue cloud covering the rest
of the image.

oh OK..possibly dust in the optics, or the panel(s) have suffered from heat
soak.  Avia should still help.

hmm possibly the phosphor is worn out (basically a CRT burns in slowly,
loosing contrast after years of use) but you still need to check with Avia.
Bring the 100% blue test screen up, cover Red & Green lenses. Look for even
colour (also correct colour decoder value) then do the same with red test
screen (cover blue & green), then green test screen (cover blue & red)

Or it could be dirty inner/outer lens, or dirty CRT face. You need to do
some visual checking of the lenses/crt's..and also using Avia to determine
the problem.

If the blue CRT is worn, you could try to adjust blue drive to get the best
overall colour balance for the centre of the image, ignoring the outer
portion. If the blue tube is worn there's nothing you can do, except
replacing the tube (expensive)
