Recived this brush cutter for nothing when I bought a lawn mower of the owner. Has not used it for a while. Put fuel in, will just start and just idle. Took air cleaner cover of, and ajusted a screw marked L and H. I take it this is a lean and rich mixture screw? Screwed right around to H. will idle very high, but as soon as you touch the throtle, it dies. Sounds like a fuel problem? Any suggestions?
Change your spark plug If the fuel oil mixture is too oily it will foul the spark plug and no cleaning will get it right. If there is a lot of oil in the crankcase it may foul the new spark plug so another new one is needed

The engine is not getting enough fuel. Try choking it some and see if this helps. If it does, then check the fuel filters. If you still have problems, then you will need to clean the carburetor or open the main jet if it is adjustable. Modern small engines are se to run as lean as possible to keep pollution down. This is much worse on small engines shipped to California. If the carburetor and filter are clean and you still have the problem, take the carburetor to lawn mower shop and see if they will replace the main jet with one a little larger.
there are lots of replacements out there you just need the size. and type. they have been used for years on meany types of tanks. plastic/ metal. you can even take the old one off and take to a parts bay for motor bikes or lawn mowers they can match it by eye then.
Normally when you move the throttle control on the handle, all that is happening is that governor spring tension is increasing or decreasing pull on the linkage /governor arm. With engine off and plug wire removed, look for a small shaft coming out of the engine with an arm attached. Attached to the small arm will be linkage to the throttle on carb.. So when you move the throttle on the carb with your finger the arm moves also. There should be spring connected to opposite side of governor arm connected to throttle control at the handle or small lever or metal tab. When you incease pull on the spring, the engine will speed-up. Adjust as needed. Good luck
It's best to run all electronics through a UPS and surge protector. Small generators like the RG-950 are really for small power tools and lighting. The Ryobi RG-950 is only rated 650 watts which really means about 450 watts (70%) for continuous use. In general, a basic desktop or a laptop should be OK. A TV up to 25 inches and a 100w lamp, should be OK. If you try doing both at the same time, expect smoke followed by lights out. A UPS and Surge Protector are a must on small generators due to their poor voltage and frequency regulation. The UPS should be a good quality one that deals with Brownout, Overvoltage, and frequency deviation. ALWAYS USE A SURGE PROTECTOR!
check your beakers, be careful but you may want to flash the sys. if you have a brush sys, on the back you should have a cover that pops out. left is hot right is ground. take a 9 or 12 vol battery (lawn mower battery). take the wires from battery to gen set and flash it for one second with the unit running at full throttle. if not a brush unit us a plug type wire and plug it in to the 120 vol receptacle for one second. than check to see if you have power. if not repeat but hold for 2 to 3 second. again check power out put. if none take to a shop
