Yes there is and it's actually a DVD Rewriter than doubles up as a CD Rewriter. Meaning that you can burn & read CD's & DVD's. There should be a button on either the left or right side of the laptop to open the drive. Looking at the pictures from the link, the drive is on the right side.
Presumably, you bought _exactly_ the correct set of Recovery Disks for your specific HP.
Sounds like "hardware" problems:
* loose cable between motherboard and disk-drive,
* bad RAM (download and run the free 'MEMTEST86+' software to "test" your RAM),
* bad disk-drive,
* leaking capacitors on your motherboard
(do a visual inspection, looking for brown "gunk" on top of a capacitor, and looking for bulging capacitors)
* overheating motherboard
if you have more than one drive labeled c:, then yes, it can cause serious problems. maybe im not understanding your question, but if you are saying you have two drives labled c:, it could cause boot problems, program installation problems and even file location problems. xp and vista should auto rename them on boot or time of plugging them in... hope that helps
You should copy all of the created files, not the programs. Windows and other programs, once installed, are spread all over the hard drive, not just in the program folder in Program Files. This link is to a site for free disk cloning, imaging and backup programs that might be what you are looking for. Also, if you are looking for a backup service, Carbonite.com is very secure and easy.
