In simple terms, a capacitor is an electrical/electronic component that stores electrical energy almost like a battery but shorter time but higher voltage.
In a washing machine, the most common function is to provide the initial kick (start) for the motor to turn.
Capacitors are also used in the control module/board.

it helps the motor to turn, it is sometimes called the starting capacitor and some are called running capacitor..
all capacitor used in drive motors are used to start the drive motors.
