Question about Air Conditioners

Masport Sofia - ECS Gas Heater Pizo comes on, gas burner starts/ lights normally, pizo cuts out normally, then the gas valve shuts off the gas and the flame goes out. Then the cycle starts again.

Eventually, after ~10 starts, the unit heated up and stayed on last night.
Tonight it will not stay on after ~20 starts.

The manifold is clean and the gas comes out the manifold holes unifomally/ normally.

It seems as if it is not registering that flame has ignited.

I've looked for a thermocouple and have preheated what is called the "flame detector" in the manual.

Preheating has not made any difference.

I have checked for loose connections in all the wiring.

The space heater flame has a normal (full flame after ignition, for 5 seconds; each time it ignites (20 times in a row).

After 5 seconds of normal heating the machine shuts off the gas; waits 10-15 seconds, then the ignition sequence restarts.

It would seem the sensor for the flame is not registering the fact, the full flame is on.

The manifold and burner are clean.

Any ideas on how to check the heat sensor and stop it turning off the gas??

    thanks

Have you tried cleaning the burners completely?

that may help

    The air
and gas mix then flows into the burner where the pilot flame or ignitor
ignites it. On models with a spark ignition, there is usually a spark
switch attached to the burner valve, a spark module and the spark
ignitor. When you turn the valve, the switch tells the spark module to
send electricity to the spark ignitor to create the spark to ignite the
gas. Almost all older cooktops with unsealed burner units allow you to
raise the entire top for cleaning and service.

Hi there

On these heaters there are a number of safety cut out switches and some are not obvious,
1. If fitted I guess they have changed the thermocouple ( this sits in the pilot flame and connects to the gas valve) if they have changed the gas valve.
2. There is normally a control link to the heater to prevent it starting if the pump is not running or the pressure is too low. This is usually a wire that runs through the pump motor overload(if fitted) and the inlet or outlet water pressure switches ( if both fitted) and then to the time clock (again if fitted) and to the thermosts on the heater.

I hope this helps, but please come back to me if you need more info

Have a Fridgidaire GR6C-080C-16 furnace that runs for a few minutes then gas supply is cut-off. Furnace will then re-start and the run through it's pre-cycle, just as if the thermostat just called for...

It sounds to me like you have problems with the gas valve as you have eliminated pretty much everything else. I would check all wiring to valve, check for any breaks on the insulation and clean all connections.
When the burner goes out is the blower still running or does it quit then the burner go off? If that is the case I would think the thermal overload on motor was tripping. It makes me more inclined to suspect the gas valve due to the lack of any diagnostic code.
One other thing I would try is to check power to gas valve when burner is firing and see what it does when it cuts out.If it maintains power when gas shuts off then I would replace gas valve. Good luck and thank you.

I have a Goodman gas furnance. The furmance kicks on the glow rod lights and then the furnance shuts down after about 60 seconds it goes through the same cycle. The burners never come on. What's wrong?

Gas valve is not kicking in or gas shut offs are off. Can you check voltage where 2 wires connect to gas valve. Can you see blinking lights thru lower door window and count blinks. Code sticker should be on inside of lower door.

The heater cuts on but when it cuts off the pilot goes out,the thermo cupler has already been changed. It will not stay on.

Sounds like the gas valve is bad. The pilot is controlled through it. Sounds like instead of just shutting the burners off, its turnin the pilot off too.

You may have a dirty/rusty burner that is clogged or your gas valve
manifold pressure setting may be too low. Normal manifold pressure
is 3.5 inches water column on natural gas furnaces. ( 1 psig is equivalent to 28 inches water column). Pull and clean burner. Also
check and clean pilot assy. including flame sensor (if present).
Please let me know.

Furnace runs about 1 minute, then total shutdown

What type of gas supply line do you have? Is it black pipe or copper? If it is copper, there can be a film like substance that builds up on the inside of the copper. The debris will the get caught in a pre screen where the supply enters the valve thus cutting the supply of gas to the unit. Also, the thermocouple may be bad. You didn't say that you replaced it. Try replacing it as well. Also, you could have a limit switch turning the system off and thus cutting the gas off completely but it is highly unusual for the pilot to be cut off as well unless the pilot is being blown out when the gas is shut off. Also, turn the unit to fan only without calling for heat. Using a flame of some sort, put it into each baffle of the heat exchanger. If your flame is being blown around in one of the baffles, then you have a hole in the heat exchanger and what is happening is that the roll out switch is cutting the unit off and the air still moving through the heat exchanger is blowing the pilot out. I have seen this actually happen. If your furnace is in excess of 15 years old, it does need to be checked for possible holes. If it is in excess of 25 years old, it is a huge possibility that the unit has already developed a hole. If you feel hair coming out of one of the baffles, then shut the unit down immediately and have it replaced!

Cozy wall heater working intemittently

Sounds like a limit switch is tripping.
This appliance is equipped with a manual reset blocked
flue switch designed to protect against a blocked flue condition,
which would cause combustion products to spill back into the
living quarters. NOTE: A partially blocked, inadequate, or
disconnected vent system may not activate the switch.
Discoloration of the grille is an indication of a bad vent. If this
occurs, the vent can be checked by a qualified serviceman using
a draft gauge. After 15 minutes the gauge should read between
-.02 up to -.04 inches w.c. Vent must be checked at the
beginning of each heating season.

Rheem gas furnace pilot lights, but no burners or fan

If the burners do not fully ignite, the sensor will shut the furnace down. The lack of sufficient burner flame is a gas valve or gas pressure problem within the valve.
Replacing the gas valve with the original one may get you going. I surely suggest a professional service company for safety reasons and a thorough inspection. A 20 year old furnace is past it's normal life span.

I have a problem with my heating system. It is about 10 years old and has had the ignitor, combustion blower motor, and programable thermostat replace in it's lifetime. The system worked great last year....

sounds like its not proofing flame. it has a sensor usually like a needle sticks out into the flame that tells the gas valve the flame lit and is burning so its ok to keep sending gas, if its fails to proof flame then burner shuts down, then it tries to relight 3 times then locks out on fail safe. the blower will sometimes run continually once that occurs to highlight a failed condition. every time you reset it will try again 3 times then shut down. lp gas is very dangerous, even i do not work on it as the gas acts like gasoline and lays around. not like natural gas that disperses well. if you see the flame sensor try gently cleaning it with a little emory cloth. also a loose ground can cause this. check tio be sure any green wires are snug , they actually flow volts to ground through the flame on some to proof, thats why no ground no flame. if that fails then the board is most likely problem. change wire for wire , or get generic replacemant and follow directions exactly. good luck.some ignitors act as a flamre proofer as soon as they are done igniting! rarely do they fail to perform both funtions.

. Several times of recyling power normally brings the furnance up. Though the failure code has always been 31, there are several different behaviour when the blower starts after reset :
a. blower simply creases.
b. there is an attempt to start the heating unit (I hear the high pitch noises), then everything stops.
c. there is an attempt to start the heating unit (I hear the high pitch noises), once I see the orange glow from the coil, normally the gas is lit up and the unit starts working.
