That's because the ML-L3 doesn't work with the D300, only with the less expensive models. Nikon has several different remotes available for the D300.

I do not now how to set my remote mode on my nikon 3100

Sorry, but the D3100 doesn't work with the ML-L3 infrared remote. It uses the MC-DC2 wired remote or equivalent.
With the MC-DC2, you don't need to set a remote mode. Simply plug the MC-DC2 into the D3100. You can then use the button on the remote the same way you normally use the shutter release button on the camera.

Does nikon D5000 work with infrared

If you're asking about an infrared remote control then yes. It will work with the ML-L3 remote or equivalent. You will have to set the shooting mode to one of the two remote modes to do so.

If you're asking about taking infrared pictures then not so well. The camera has an infrared filter that masks out most infrared light from reaching the sensor. There are companies such as LifePixel which will remove the infrared filter to convert your camera into an infrared camera.

The ML-L3 cannot be used with the D3100. An alternative wireless remote is this one. It's not an external IR port but a radio receiver.

ML-L3 remote was working then it wasn't. Not sure if I have changed a setting on the camera (Nikon D70) or the remote has failed. Have changed battery on remote but still not working. How can I test the...

Set the camera's shooting mode to one of the two remote modes. The quick-response remote mode fires the shutter when you push the button on the remote. The delayed remote mode gives you two seconds to hide the remote behind your back before firing the shutter. Now point the remote at the infrared sensor on the front of the camera and push the button. If the camera fires, then everything is working.

You might also try wiping both the infrared sensor on the camera and the emitter on the remote with a soft clean cloth.

After changing batteries, my brand new Nikon Ml L3 remote will still not display the infered light.. much less work

With no response to repeated queries over three months, I assume the fact that the human eye cannot see into the infrared does not hamper the remote from working properly.

Hi, There were no instructions for the Infrared Remote (ML-L3) for my Nikon D80. What are the remote shooting modes?

Set the camera's shooting mode to one of the two remote mode. The quick-response mode fires the shutter when you press the button on the remote. The delayed mode gives you two seconds to hide the remote behind your back for triggering the shutter.

For full details on using the remote, refer to the "Choosing a Shooting Mode" section in your camera manual.

How to use remote trigger to take a photo with Nikon D300

I'm going to assume you mean the ML-L3 remote. If I'm wrong, please post a comment specifying the remote you are using.

Set the camera's shooting mode to one of the remote modes. Quick remote fires the camera when you press the button on the release. Delayed-response remote waits two seconds to let you hide your hand behind your back before it fires the camera.

The ML-L3 is an infrared remote, so it must be pointed in the general direction of the infrared receiver on the front of the camera.

New ML-L3 remote light doesn't shine

It's an infrared light (like on the remote control for your TV) and you shouldn't be able to see it.

Set the camera's shooting mode to one of the two remote modes. Quick-response remote takes a picture as soon as you push the button on the remote. Delayed-response remote waits two seconds so you can hide the remote behind your back.

Using the ML-L3 with the D60

Got it! It's on page 54 of the manual (mine anyway).

Choose release mode from the Quick settings display.

You have a choice between:
single frame (default)
continuous (burst mode)
self-timer
delayed remote (using the ML-L3)
quick response remote (using the ML-L3)

I just took 4 self-portraits using quick response. And deleted them straightaway!
