Hello, My 2500 series lexmark that i bought a couple months ago just ran out of black ink. I refilled it with a nukote kit from walmart, but it wont recognize that it has been refilled. Is there any way to reset the black ink level. Keeps telling me that the black ink is empty and wont let me print anything. It wants me to go to lexmark.com and buy a new cartridge. Fat chance! I will trash this thing if i cant use the cheap refill kits. I am wondering if lexmark codes each of their ink cartridges or something so you cannot refill them.
I use Lexmark X2550 . I have refilled Cartridge 29A one time and it worked fine then my black cartridge 28 ran out, I replaced with 28A and the printer don't recognize both Cartridges.

Re: refilling lexmark cartridges x2500
There are a couple ways to trick it into accepting the cartridge. You can put a different one in, take it out and then put the filled one in. Or you can find a refill kit with instructions on what contacts to cover with tape and you have to do it 2 or 3 times to get the printer to reset. Sometimes you can shut off the computer and printer for 20 min and start it up again. Or you can get the sledge hammer and smash the stupid printer before it sucks up your life savings and vow never to buy from a company that profits from causing problems that they tell you can only be solved by using more of their overpriced solutions.
HAVE BOUGHT A TESCO REFILL KIT FOR LEXMARK PRINTER ...HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT IF THE LEXMARK PACKAGE READS "RETURN PROGRAM CARTRIDGE" A CHEAPER VERSION OF THEIR PRODUCT ,,THEN IT CANNOT BE REFILLED ,,,,ANY CLEVER PEOPLE ABOUT TO PROVE THEM WRONG.......PETER B
I had the same problem so i called lexmark and asked them. I was told that Lexmark printers do not work on refilled cartridges because each copper contact is different. I know this does not help any of us when it costs more to buy the ink than a new printer with the ink costs. It bites!!

Press the "Power" button to turn on your Lexmark X2500 3-in-1 printer.
Open the top portion of the printer to reveal the ink cartridges.
Lift the gray plastic cover on the left. Remove the empty black #28 ink cartridge. Next, lift the purple plastic cover on the right and remove the empty color #29 ink cartridge.
Remove the new black #28 ink refill cartridge from its packaging. Tear the protective strip of paper from the cartridge's sensor. Now, remove the new color #29 ink refill cartridge from its packaging and tear the protective strip of paper from the cartridge's sensor.
Turn the cartridges so that you can read the label. This is the way the cartridges should face when being put into the printer.
Slide the black #28 cartridge into the slot on the left side and push it down. Slide the color #29 cartridge into the slot on the right side and push down.
Push the gray plastic cover down over the #28 cartridge until it clicks closed. Push the purple plastic cover down over the #29 cartridge until it clicks closed.
Close the top portion of the printer. Your new ink cartridges are installed, and your printer is ready to use.
What you need is to reset the ink level: 1) Goto the Lexmark Solution Center application. 2) Press button Maintenance>Install a new print cartridge, follow the instruction on screen. U may then have your new full ink level. Note: u only can reset to full level, cannot customize the level by your own. Hope this help.

Hey....I solved the lexmark out of ink problem!!!HA!!! what you have to
do if you want to refill these is "pop" off the top of the cartridge.
It is not easy as it is glued down...using a small screwdriver
preferably a small flat jewelers screw driver you can peel back the
plastic that seperates the "lid" of the ink cartridge. you have to use
a little force but you can get it off. Once you do this the cartridge
will always read full!!!!!! just tape it or super glue it back on. You
never have to take it off again! although I recomend cleaning the ink
sponges inside every 3 refills. but this works great.....ha ha
lexmark.....I got ya!!!!
