Can not get the mac pro osx 10 5 8 to start with the utility disk or with regular start up my on pilot lite keeps blinking

Put the Mac install disk back in. Try pressing command-option-escape to force quit. If nothing happens, then press command-control-power to force a restart. If that doesn't work, press and hold the power button for five seconds or so until the computer shuts down. Power up the computer again, and hold the option key so you can select the instal disc for startup. Run Disk Utility again. Sometimes you get a tangled file reference that requires several tries to undo - this could be calling the sleep routine instead of what it's supposed to do.

The disk might not have a working OS on it.

It you have successfully run the disk utility the disk probably in full working order. I think that the OS on the disk is either missing, corrupt or not compatible with the computer you are running it on.

My computer is very slow, sometimes freezes or won't load and will not shut down

If your laptop computer won't shut itself down even after you select the "Shut Down" option from your "Start" menu, this means that too many programs are still open on your computer. Before Windows can shut down, it needs to manually close all open software, and having too many programs open can severely delay this process or cause Windows to lock up. Closing these programs will help your machine shut down as normal.
b> Right-click on your task bar. Click "Show Windows Stacked." This will maximize all of the program windows for all open programs on your desktop. The windows will be stacked one on top of the other on-screen. Click the "X" box in the corner of the first window to close that particular program. This will reveal the next program window in the stack. Continue to close these programs until you see your desktop wallpaper again. This, coupled with the fact that your task bar should now be cleared of all program icons, indicates that you have successfully closed all program windows. Your laptop will now shut down normally.

Computer won't come out of sleep

This problem occurs due to various reason: too many software on your startup or your C: drive is full or may be because of virus.

You can do a couple of things:
1. try freeing up your C: drive space, delete unnecessary things and leave at least 15% of space free.
2. Defragment your C: drive, Go to start and write Disk Difragment and press enter. Select C: drive to defragment it (do #1 first)
3. Turn off startup program. Go to start and write 'msconfig', a window will appear, click startup tab where you will find list of software name, untick the software you don't need then apply to restart.( Caution: This step is not recommanded for someone who knows what they are doing).

Hi I am trying to download skype 5.5 free version and it is not going past skypetm -Install window.. I hv tried to wait for almost an hour but nothing has worked so far.. Will appreciate help solving the...

Hello,
Maybe you need some hard disk space and Skype requires at least 256 MB of RAM and 18 MB of free hard-disk space for installation files. Try to delete some of your files that are not necessary especially images. To find out how much free disk space is on your computer:

  • Open your "My Computer" folder by clicking the icon on your desktop. If you do not have a shortcut on your desktop, open your "Start" menu and right-click on the "My Computer" icon.

  • 2 Right-click on your hard drive icon. Generally, the hard drive is named the C: drive. Select the "Properties" option from the drop-down menu.

  • 3 Read the pie chart and accompanying information to determine how much free disk space your hard drive has. Windows operating systems use blue to indicate how much disk space you are using and purple to depict how much free space is available.

  • If you have enough space, try to download SKYPE

If this would help you please don't forget to give rating.

Deleting updates, freeing space on hard drive

if you are running windows vista, this might help alot, if running xp, it might not, go disk clean up for drive c. to do this, open up my computer, and right click on drive c, and open up properties. click on disk clean up, and a window should show up. if you are running windows vista, its going to ask if from current user, or all users, click all users. after the calculating window, a window that says disk clean up for drive c will show up. click on the tab at the top of that window that says more options, and on the bottom box, which should say system restore and shadow copies, click the clean up button. the longer it takes, the more space its freeing up. Goodluck

    Computer problem, help.

This generally indicates a hard drive crash/failure, in which the hard drive will need to be replaced. Rare, but occasionally you will get this error from an operating system glitch. Before you run out and buy a new hard drive, try reloading the operating system. If you have any problems during or after the install, then the hard drive is shot.
