Re: I was looking for a manual to download, the fan is...
Fedders made that unit for Maytag. Check the Fedders website for the same model number (just drop the M off the front of the model number) and you should be able to find what you need.
Fedders filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy Aug. 22, 2007, and is still in litigation as of June 1, 2011. They say parts are not available, but I hope to find the same part ljs66608 is looking for. It's a plastic fan-type thing that is breaking up and causing terrible noise.Fedders filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy Aug. 22, 2007, and is still in litigation as of June 1, 2011. Hi peterj1ca. I understand you need a manual for your unit. Hereis a link you can use to find manuals and parts list for your unit: http://bit.ly/ycsaac . I hope these suggestions prove helpful. Sincerely, Melanie, Maytag Social Media Representative.
Here's a link to your missing Owner's Manual. Look under the section Care & Cleaning on how to remove the filter. This manual will prove invaluable to you. So download & print it for future reference.
The following link is to the Owner's Manual for your unit. Once the link opens, look to the right of the page and you will see Dehumidifiers Manual English. Click on that and the manual will download. Yours is a unique setup, so it's best you see not only the instructions, but also the pictures. Look at the section entitled Disposing of Collected Water, Page 12.
Buck, as you seem to be aware, Fedders no longer exist as the Fedders you may have been familiar with 8 years ago. Finding manuals and parts, is like looking for a needle in a hay stack. However, the new company Airwell-Fedders may be able to help you. There Customer Support Dept
866-829-2440, is who you need to contact.
There is one other possible source, as some parts are interchangeable. Appliance Factory Parts http://www.appliancefactoryparts.com/airconditioners/fedders/ does carry some of the older Fedders Parts, as well as Maytag. So, that may be worth a try.
Hope this helps you find the parts you need. Good luck and please let me know how it worked out for you. Thanks.
With the unit unplugged, open the cover and check the alignment of the
fan. If the fan is stuck or rubbing against the fan cowling, adjust the
fan motor's mounting hardware so that the fan turns freely.
Hi, after reading you're problem, I found that you did the right thing. If you bypassed the switch and now you have power to the condenser motor but it doesn't operate, the motor is faulty, as you are eliminating the switch sending power to the fan motor. If you have power going into one side of the switch and you jumped it over, and the motor starts, the switch is at fault. So, you did the right thing! Sometimes you cant tell by looking at the switch wiring to no if it is at fault. In the field, we use jumper wires everyday to bypass components to check them out.In you're situation, both the compressor and condenser fan motor operate from this same switch, and the compressor was running. So, that tells me without having to bypass it that the fan motor is the faulty one, or the compressor would also be off. You may have to find one at a appliance parts house, or order one online. Sounds to me that you will have no problem changing this out. Best of luck to you, and Sincerely, Shastalaker7 PS Let me no the out come.
If the fan is not working:Take it out, and search the part number on line, they are bout $40 with s/h. however my current discovery: It made no sense to me that despite no visual issues, the fan motor is bad.So, with further research it turns out that the true culprit is the small thermistor/thermal fuse between the orange wire (ground) and motor winding wire. The thermistor is taped underneath the silver aluminium and yellow tape on the fan motor. I heard about this bad (open/no continuity) thermistor makes almost >99% of the fan motor problem regardless of any brand name because this cheap c-fram fan motor is NOT made in USA. I opened the motor, there is a silver (aluminum wrap) around the windings for the motor that needs to be cut. Careful not to cut the motor windings. Inside there is a thermistor or type of temperature sensor connected between the orange wire and a motor winding wire. On my motor this was no longer working. The part marked "JET 123 NM1 2A 130C" is a thermal fuse. The 130C is the temperature rating. When the motor get hot (130C / 265F) the fuse opens. The circuit is broken and the motor stops.
The motor is still good. The fuse is blown. It must be replaced to get the motor running again. You could bypass the fuse but then you invite a fire hazard.
I have the same problem. The fan motor bearings are bad on mine. You can get a new fan motor at Appliance Factory parts.com. Phone number 1-800-955-7075. $44.95 + shipping.
As I've recently posted a message, I've a similar unit with broken internal fan. I just placed an external fan in front of the unit and blowing front to back. With the air circulating, the unit is humming along happily and bucket fulls of water to harvest!! Don't bother fixing the fan motor, if that is the only problem, just place a small external fan instead.
