Canon MP 730 prints wrong color tones

My Canon MP 730 has worked just great up until a couple of weeks ago. Suddenly it has started printing color fonts and photos with the wrong colors - this affects all applications on my pc. Example in MS Word 2003 the red font (on the screen) prints purple. An Adobe Photoshop tiff or jpg that looks perfect on screen now prints with green or red tones. it seems as if the printer icc - color profile has changed. How do I reset the profile. I've tried downloading & updating the drivers - no change.

I have the same problem. Worked great until a few weeks ago. Still prints fine but colors are way off. I only use genuine Canon ink and they are all full. Any solutions out there?

I use only Canon ink and recently it started printing the wrong color. Sometimes Yellow is partly Yellow, sometimes other colors. I am afraid to waste ink printing a photo as I never know if it will come out with the correct colors? What's happening???

  • Anonymous Dec 13, 2008

Same here. Prints greens as purples. Very annoying. I tried everything with ICM profiles etc... but it is the same. I wonder if the yellow is no longer printing. I don't know.......

I get to join the wrong color club also. Red is printing out as green, green as bright yellow, and light brown and light yellow....4 years of reliable service, than all of sudden the colors are wrong. Ran diagnostics, cleaned heads and nozzles...no joy.

    HELP!!

Same thing for me. I only use genuine Canon ink and it started printing the wrong color. Just now, it printed brown instead of orange. Not even close! I agree I don't want to print things because it will waste the ink if it doesn't come out in the right color. C'mon Canon - tell us how to fix this!

I was having a similar problem-- what was happening was the print cartridge head seemed to be letting the colors leak into each other. (the science behind this is beyond me!)-- I noticed that instead of being cyan/magenta/yellow, my yellow cartridge had actually turned green, magenta was picking up blue and was turning purple, etc etc. I ended up replacing the printer's printhead and all the color cartridges and then it worked.
You can order printheads online.
Not sure if this fixes the original reason why they got all mixed up in the first place-- if the printer will continue to allow the print head to leak the colors into each other-- but hopefully that's a fixit!

Canon i9100: colors printing incorrectly

I've had the Canon i9100 since 2003 and have excellent photo printing results. In 2009 it started playing up and I'd gt some banding. More recently, black didn't want to print. It was as though the black ink in the print head got dry some days.

April 2010 - The colours started printing strange and I bought a brand new print head and installed it. Only takes a minute. Still had an issue with photo printing. Black and white was excellent but colours weren't true.

Found advice online to try cleaning the print head to print head carrier electrical contacts by rubbing them with a rubber eraser.

I did that and now I'm getting perfect colour photo prints again.

I had been thinking about buying a new A3+ printer but this is old printer is now working as good as new.

"WRONG CARTRIDGE" continues to flash on the screen.

I have experienced the "Wrong Cartridge" error about 4 times in four years. I have never bought a replacement print head. I do occasional printing each week. Typically the problem occurs after a color cartridge goes empty and the ink dried to the print head. The solution for me has been to remove the cartridges, remove the print head, place the print head in hot water in the kitchen sink (softens water based ink that has hardened)and then use a Q-Tip or tissue paper to clean the print head until it is nice and shiny. Reinstall the print head, insert ink cartridges that are not empty, let the printer cycle through a self-test, use the set button to accept vertical and horizontal print patterns and you'll be good to go!
If that doesn't fix it, you'll need to replace the printhead ($49-69 depending on where you buy it.

Canon MP-730 It never was a good color printer, the red was not printing, but that is not why I purchased it. But now it the black ink stopped printing altogether, so no incoming faxes, no copies and no...

I can recommend the HP all-in-ones. They are the cheapest per page and are like all HP products - well built and reliable.
I have the L7590 which is duplex printing, photo printing, ADF, Fax, etc.
I don't know of any inkjet all-in-one that is B&W only. If that is what you are after, I would recommend a laser all-in-one like the HP Laserjet 3052 or the Canon imageCLASS MF4150

I went to canon and found the solution. It took a couple attempts, but it finally worked and I am up and running again. Under 10 minutes.

Canon MP 730 no black

You can get the MP 730 for Data Bazaar for 120.00 with no shipping charges. Hard to pay 160.00 for a repair when a new one is so much less. Just FYI.
