Follow these steps:

The light needs to be red to start off with, with the light being red hold down the power button until you hear a double beep. You may have to try a few times until it does this, as soon as you hear the double beep release your finger from the button and you'll see a message on the screen that says "connect a controller with a usb cable and press the ps button." After you've followed those instructions you should see a menu with 6 options, you'll want to select option 3 "Restore File system."

This should solve your problem.

When i power on the ps3 it dosnt go past the first 'wavey' screen n dose not go to my home screen just stays on the 'wavey' screen

This is a problem with the Playstation 3 software becoming corrupt. It is very easy to fix if you follow my simple steps.

Please note, using option 5 will erase your hard drive so any save games you had will be lost. All your on-line trophies will be preserved.

Step 1.

Turn your Playstation 3 off into standby mode (red light on)

Step 2.

Press and hold the power button. The Playstation 3 will beep when you first press it, then beep again 5 seconds later and then beep once more and turn off back into standby mode (red light on). You must now release the power button.

Step 3.

Press and hold the power again. The Playstation 3 will beep when you first press it, beep again 5 seconds later then there will be 2 quick beeps together. When you hear these 2 quick beeps release the power button.

Step 4.

Your Playstation 3 will now start up with a screen asking you to connect a controller via USB. Connect your controller and then press the PS button.

Step 5.

A menu will now be displayed on screen. Select option 3 "Restore File System". This will then ask you to confirm that you wish to go ahead with the system restore. Accept whatever the Playstation 3 says.

The Playstation 3 will now go through the system restore process and re-install the system software. Once you have completed the above, the Playstation 3 should restart and spring back to life again. If it does not, do the above but choose option 4. If this does not work do the above again and choose option 5. Option 5 will format your hard drive.

I hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa

It turn on and it stay on the main screen

Hello,

Try these steps below to see if it will fix the problem on your ps3,

1. Turn off Playstation®3.
2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

The current Recovery Menu supports:
• Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION®3 System.
• Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default.
• Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files.
• Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3.

When console is turned on, stays on a purple screen

If you are using HDMI, try using a lesser resolution cable and then reset the system by turning the system off with the main power button, then back on. Press and hold the front power button until you hear 3 beeps then the light turns to red again. That should help.

The consol turns on but will not go to the menu,

It sounds like a hard drive issue. If your system can't read your hard drive it will stay on the blue Playstation screen. After a few minutes it will say it cant load from the hard drive on the screen. Try putting your hard drive in a different machine and see if it boots up.
