Dra-397 shuts down 1 second after turning on - Denon DRA-397

  • Anonymous Jan 11, 2017

Had a simular problem with a dra 297. Though main amps where fine. Found that the resistors r193 or r194 must have changed. These monitor the 40v lines on the main board. Replacing these cured the problem of shutdown.

There's a couple of possibilities; power supply shutting down because of a fault within it; the PS shutting down because of excessive current drawn and that can be caused by a failure in the final amplifiers which are probably modular in design.

I have a denon DRA-397 receiver and when I try to bring it out of standby, it attempts to restart then returns to standby after the tuner starts up. The standby button has a flashing red ring rather

When the power indicator is blinking red, there are a few possible issues. 1) The unit has overheated internally due to insufficient air flow around the unit. Let it cool down and then make sure that you have it in a well-ventilated area. (If you keep your home theater devices in a "closet", make sure that you have good air flow so that the heat from all the devices doesn't build up.)

2) The speaker wire cores are touching each other or the back of the unit. The DRA-397 will shut itself off if it detects a short of the speaker wires. Check the connections and make sure that the wires are not touching where they shouldn't.

3) An internal short or fault has been detected. In this case, contact Denon for repair.

I hope this helps.

If you are not pressing the power button on the remote that may be the problem

Powers on, shuts off about 3 seconds later

Disconnect speaker wires and try to turn it on. If the problem still there you need to bring the receiver for repair it has an internal problem - burned channel or bad power supply.

Denon dra 397 shuts done if I turn on both zone a & b. Have a 100 watt volume control on each pair of speakers. Works fine with only zone a or zone b on, but not both.

Let's understand this - you have an external volume control wired in series with each front speaker set?

Can you elaborate on their electrical characteristics?
