I have a Seiko Kinetic SKA192. Why does it stop working and then start again the next day on it's own? It's driving me crazy since I keep having to fix the date and time everyday.

Here is the information from the website. The link to the manual is provided below. HOW TO CHARGE AND START THE WATCH Swing the watch from side to side approximately 50 times. * Before swinging the watch, check and remember where the minute hand is so that you can tell if the start-up indicator has worked or not. First, check that the crown is at the normal position. * If the crown is pulled out and the watch is swung, the start-up indicator will not work even if the watch starts operating. * Swing rhythmically at a rate of twice a second. * No additional benefit is obtained by swinging the watch more quickly or with greater vigor. * When the watch is swung, the oscillating weight in the generating system rotates to drive the mechanism. As it rotates, it gives out a sound, which is not a malfunction. 1 2 The minute hand moves quickly and stops as the watch starts operating. (Start-up indicator) Then, it will move at 20-second intervals. 3 After checking that the minute hand has done this, pull out the crown to set the time. 4 After pushing back the crown in to the normal position, swing the watch further approximately 350 times to reserve one day of power, and then, put the watch on your wrist. http://www.seikowatches.com/support/ib/pdf/1m20_e.pdf Good luck, Techjoel

SOURCE: my rolex submariner keeps having the wrong date on

There isn;t any downloadable manuals for Rolex watches, but operation of Rolex is very simple:
1) when you unscrew the crown, it is in winding position,
2) when you pull out the crown to the first click, it is in day and date setting position (depending wich way you turn the crown).
NOTE: to adjust the day or date, previously you have to advance hands forward, passing 12 o'clock (midnight) mark and stop advancing at 4.00 a.m. using the crown in position as described in chapter 3. When done - push the crown fully in, then pull out to the first click and only then adjust the day or date.
3) when you pull the crown further out to the second click, it is in time setting position.
To find the daytime or night time on the watch: pull out crown to the second click and advance watch hands forward till you pass the 12 mark on dial. If the date changes as you pass it - it is the night time (midnight). If the date do not change as you pass it - it is the daytime (noon).
After all settings being done, allways screw the crown back down as it protects the watch from water and moisture.
Never use watch in sauna- it's not designed for that.
Do not forget to rate, please.

SOURCE: My Kinetic watch stopped working.

I highly suspect and probably you also suspect that the energy storage capacitor needs to be replaced. My experience in working on these is that they are only good for about 3-4 years. I only replace with a new Seiko Lithum Ion battery. Check www.timelywatchrepair.com

You have a bad capacitor. You can either try to repair this yourself with a special upgrade kit for about $20 (and maybe screw it up) or pay an expert who will do it right for $67.

http://www.qualitywatchrepair.com/seiko_kinetic.htm

For an extra $20 he'll do a pressure test on it to be sure it is water-proof but since this is a pro you really don't need to worry about it on a non dive watch.

10 year old Seiko Kinetic (model5M62-0B00) blue face. Last week stopped and after some shaking started again but seconds moved in 2 sec intervals for a few hours. Went OK for a week and again last night...

After 10 years it will be likely that the Kinetic capacitor will need upgrading. Your watch is designed to tick in two second intervals to tell you the power is very low. The power button will work again when it has some power to show. Yorkshire Watches www,yorkshirewatches.co.uk can do the upgrade for you if your in the UK. Give them a ring.

Watch stopped while in hospital and now, although running again, has the second hand moving in two second intervals

Some Seiko kinetic watches and other self charging watches do this when the battery is low. If it relies on you moving to keep it charged that may explain why it stopped in hospital. Try giving it a good shake and see if it starts moving smoothly again

Seiko Kinetic that doesn't work

This watch does not have a battery, but has a capacitor which is rechargable. It is not taking a charge, and needs to be replaced. You should take it to a store with a watchmaker ON THE PREMISES. Or you could send it to: www.bscwatchrepair.com
