I have a Century 1081 115v, 2 speed pump for my waterfeature. The motor runs fine in low and high spped, the pump impeller is spinning but it dies not pump water. It is a 3/4 horse. The waterfall reservoir is approx. 450 - 500 gallons. I am using 2 inch pipe. The drain pipe (intake) run is four feet from the drain itslef then goes up two feet and into the pump. I suspect the pump itself needs a rebuild since there is no water beung pumped at all. I even removed the outlet side to see if water was making it to the outlet side of the pump - no dice. Should a 3/4 horse motor (3450 rpm on high speed, 1450 on pow speed) be sufficient to pump water eight or ten feet (total) using two inch pipe?

I don't know the answer to this ... your pool service company can advise you. To my way of thinking, you are asking a lot of a 3/4 horse. I have a 1 1/2 horse lifting water in a two inch pipe about 4 feet to my water feature with no reservoir.

Since you have a two inch pipe, why not run a bigger motor? I have two HP on all my filtered lines which are 2" suction and 2" discharge.

Are you absolutely sure you have suction? ... and no air leaks on the suction side?

I have a Bosch Maxx Classic front loader about 15 y.o. Somehow gravel ended up in the system, and it eventually killed the motor. I replaced the motor, so now it spins, fills & drains water.

Gravel can't kill the motor. The motor is only connected via a drive belt. The only thing gravel can do is damage the pump as the gravel and water runs past the pump impeller!

If it doesn't turn in wash (low speed), but it does spin in spin mode (high speed), my guess is the the belt needs tightening or replacing.

Runs fine on low speed hums on high speed (turns slowly) is it a capacitor problem, internal windings or controller?

Motor itself is the culprit.

Capacitor helps the motor to start spinning from a dead stop, so NO, it is not a capacitor problem.

Probably high speed windings. Means - New Motor needed.

Another possibility, is the controller could be sending power to "Both" sides of the windings: High speed & Low speed at the same time. But normally when this happens, you hear a loud buzz type of sound, motor will spin slowly - if at all.

Good Luck

How to replace impeller on guolds j10

What is the make and model of the "pump"?
Gould is a motor manufacturer.
The manufacturer of a pump, will use a third-party vendor like Gould, to provide them a motor for their pump. Gould is Century/Magnetek, which is now AO Smith.

BUT...
remove pump housing/volute covered, and access the impeller. Then on the back of the motor you should be able to access the shaft. Lock up the shaft so it does not spin, and then unthread the impeller. Some pumps, especially two speed pumps, will have a locking screw in the center of the impeller. That screw will be counter threaded or backwards thread. It keeps the impeller from spinning off the shaft during normal operation between high and low speeds.

again if we had more specific information, we would be able to assist you better.

Pump runs on low speed but starts and immediatly shuts off when the high speed kicks in

That is an indication that the high speed of your pump has gone out. You can take it to a local motor shop and see if they can rebuild it for you.

I have a ao smith sp 1520 2 hp pool pump. the impeller broke off the shaft. how do i change the broken impeller please

Remove the back of the motor ... you will find there are flats on the shaft. Put your 7/16 or 1/2 open end wrench there and with your other hand, spin off the broken impeller.

My 2 speed jandy pool pump is over heating

you may either have a bad start/run capacitor for the high speed side or bad supply voltage feeding the high speed side. If there are no loud bearing noises, it should just be either of those two problems.

Drain pump starts and stops prior to final spin cycle

Jayron, is the motor jogging? start to spin, stop, start to spin stop. If so, your motor is jogging between the high and low start windings. The motor during spin should start on the high speed windings and stay there until most of the water is drained. GE came out with a new motor, harness and run cap because of this. If you have a meter, there should be a white and white/red wire going to the motor. If you have a steady 120V and it's doing this jogging, replace the motor with the kit...Let me know if this the issue, Catriver..post back.
