i have XP and running windows 7.0

  • hiureader Aug 10, 2008

no, the computer does nothing. (i get the "cannot find camera" when i have opened zoombrowserEx and attempted to download pictures from camera.) nothing happens to camera, either, fyi.

  • hiureader Aug 10, 2008

no, tried two USB ports. no "new hardware found" indication at all.

  • hiureader Aug 10, 2008

flash drive you mean what some call a memory stick? yep, plugged it into both USB ports ... it opens a window on the desktop asking what i want to do with the files, etc.

  • hiureader Aug 10, 2008

don't know about you all, but let's suspend this rescue operation for tonight. it's been suggested that there may be a conflict with some of the other programs on this computer so i'll probably take it back to the guys who built it for me and see if they can make it all work together.

if you come across some startling information or promising possible fix in the next few days, please feel free to send it along.

    thanks for your suggestions.

Trouble with downloading photos

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries. The card reader doesn't care what camera took the pictures, so you can use it with any camera (assuming the card itself fits).

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Canon ZoomBrowser or any other photo cataloging program.

The E18 error happens on Canon cameras usually when the lens is jammed when extending.
The error is so (in)famous that it has it own website where you can find help and advice on how to fix it. You can view the site by clicking the link underlined in blue below:

Corrupted data on cf card

Hi

The rest may be corrupted. Maybe running check disk will help.

Goto my computer highlight that drive with the mouse, right click and pick 'properties' from the menu, goto the 'Tools' tab and click on "Check Now" check the selection for "Automatically fix file system errors" and click on 'Start'

Later, when reformatting, I suggest using the reformat selection in the camera's menus. That way, the new format is compatible with the camera by default, instead of messing with settings in Windows.

Thanks.

Downloading photos from Canon Powershot A310

Yes, that would help. It sounds like the computer is no longer communicating with the camera correctly, and that would be due to a glitch in the software. Most likely one of the files got corrupted for no apparent reason, and if you just do a full reinstall it should resolve your problem.

If you have a memory card reader in your PC, you could also try reading that directly from ZoomBrowserEX after reinstalling if the camera still doesn't connect. If you cannot connect both ways after reinstalling, then there may be something wrong with your PC. If you can access the memory card directly after reinstalling the software, then the cable between your computer and camera is to blame.

I hope this helps you.

My computer is not recognising my EOS 20D!

Hi I have exactly the same problem. I'm running Windows Vista Business as the OS and have installed the disk that came with the camera with no avail.

It keeps recognising it as a scanner, but I cannot open the pics. I've tried different cables as well. No use.

Installation of Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk. Ver.28.2

What version of Windows are you installing this on, or is it on a Mac?

Regardless, you can download an updated version of the software here:

http://tinyurl.com/22fgku

It's possible you have an outdated version that won't work with your OS, that's especially likely if you're running Vista. Or you could just have a corrupt version. Either way, the first thing to try is downloading the newest version for your OS and installing that. Let me know if you still get an error message when trying this (and what that error message is).
