Question about Electrical Supplies

Open Question

Cub Cadet-LT1042 The "PTO Clutch" is not working. The Lawn tractor has only 100 hours on it I checked the switch(shows 13.8 volts going to the clutch) so I assume that the switch is good! (This is the series 1000) The part number for it is 717-04163. how can I test to see if the clutch is bad or if it might be some thing else? The blades don't turn at all, Led on dash panel shows" pto" is dis-engaged, no broked belts or any thing obvious- It just stoped when I was mowing the grass!

I am having the same trouble, only I have 10 hours of use. I was cutting the grass today and it the blades just stopped as if I turned off the PTO. Toggling the PTO does not help. I also checked the belts and blades, and the fuse.

we have the same model mower and had to have the clutch replaced 8/2007. It was still under warrenty at that time. (Clutch 3 years) The deck belt broke early this summer, then 8/2008 almost 1 year to the day, the clutch went out again. The warrenty went out 5/2008 of course. Had to pay to get it fixed $300, and are having the dealer file a warrenty dispute. I can't say that I'm the least bit pleased with this purchase. We don't have rough ground to mow over or anything that I can see that would cause undo stress on the mower. The serviceman did tell us that he works on an awful lot of them. Good luck. I'm beginning to believe that this model is a lemon.

SOURCE: Cub cadet Z Force 48 inch zero turn blades won't engage

I hope this will help you...under the side panels on each side of the mower, there are "reverse lockout safety switches", they are supposed to stop the blades when both handles are pulled back. If one or both of the switches are out, the deck will not engage. Also, under the right side panel (when sitting on seat) there should be 3 relay switches, the one closest to the motor controls the PTO., if this is out, the PTO will not engage.

SOURCE: Hello,

If you have what i think you have. The only timing adjustment as such would be in the coil to magnet air gas. Which is usually around .125 thou.

The other timing is done internally, when you line up the marks on the cam gear with the marks on the crank gear. good luck and be careful

SOURCE: When I engage the PTO clutch, the amp light comes

You need to repair either repair a poor connection from the alternator[stator], or replace the rectifier/regulater.Some systems have a inline fuse check that first.

SOURCE: My Cub cadet pto cluch bearing is froze up on my 2518 lawn tracto

A medium length extension (stuck through the grill), a swivel and an impact is all you need to remove the pulley with the frozen bearing. It's just a bolt, a washer, and a lock washer holding it on. You just need to remove the pulley to see if the bearing is stuck. Take the pulley to your local shop that can press bearings and you can be up and running for $20 dollars instead of $300. Here's a diagram I found on partstree:

SOURCE: PTO problem on a model

Hi,
I would be looking at the ignition switch....but before replacing it I would be looking for a friend with an electrical meter and checking the wiring for power coming out of the switch to the cluthch, this way you can narrow it down positively before buying parts.

I have a LT1042, cub cadet. PTO clutch burnt up. I replaced it and the solenoid, fuse, and relay. Thinking that when PTO clutch burnt out that something else like a wire or sensor went out also.

Check all the safety switches u have a bad one look under the seat first that one is a common problem so I take it your PTO won't engage I bet your old PTO is still good the safety junk they put on these mowers fails a lot causing problems running your mower also look under the back side by the tire there is another safety switch that gets corroded that's switch is the one that will not let you mow in reverse if you want to bypass it u can just put the wires together then beware your mower will work in reverse also I hope this helps you have a great day Regards Chris

This is either the clutch relay, or the clutch is out of adjustment

I have no power to the pto on my LT1042 mower I found broken wires and fixed the but still no power. Where are the fuses that would blow? I only found one fuse and its ok

Did you check for power at the pto switch? Start with checking that, then check the wire from the PTO switch to see if it has power all the way to the PTO clutch. If there is power to the clutch, and the belt is good and routed properly it's probably the PTO clutch.

The clutch has it's own brearings in it. You have to replace the hole PTO.Sometimes you can find a Aftermarket PTO clutch. There usually A little cheaper.
