Question about Power Generators

Open Question

Cub Cadet-LT1042 The "PTO Clutch" is not working. The Lawn tractor has only 100 hours on it I checked the switch(shows 13.8 volts going to the clutch) so I assume that the switch is good! (This is the series 1000) The part number for it is 717-04163. how can I test to see if the clutch is bad or if it might be some thing else? The blades don't turn at all, Led on dash panel shows" pto" is dis-engaged, no broked belts or any thing obvious- It just stoped when I was mowing the grass!

I am having the same trouble, only I have 10 hours of use. I was cutting the grass today and it the blades just stopped as if I turned off the PTO. Toggling the PTO does not help. I also checked the belts and blades, and the fuse.

we have the same model mower and had to have the clutch replaced 8/2007. It was still under warrenty at that time. (Clutch 3 years) The deck belt broke early this summer, then 8/2008 almost 1 year to the day, the clutch went out again. The warrenty went out 5/2008 of course. Had to pay to get it fixed $300, and are having the dealer file a warrenty dispute. I can't say that I'm the least bit pleased with this purchase. We don't have rough ground to mow over or anything that I can see that would cause undo stress on the mower. The serviceman did tell us that he works on an awful lot of them. Good luck. I'm beginning to believe that this model is a lemon.

SOURCE: Hello,

If you have what i think you have. The only timing adjustment as such would be in the coil to magnet air gas. Which is usually around .125 thou.

The other timing is done internally, when you line up the marks on the cam gear with the marks on the crank gear. good luck and be careful

How do I fix a clutch on Massey Ferguson 165 1979 tractor. I need a manual to do repair on farm

This is easy. If you live on a farm i assume you have some mechanic abilities. the tractor needs to be split in half. I have done these tractors in as little as 4 hrs. The easy way to seperate the tractor is to sleightly jack up the middle of the tractor, put a jack stand under the front of the transmision. Now move the floor jack forward to the rear of the engine. take roughly half of the weight off of the jack stand. this will allow you to roll the front half of the tractor away from the rear once you remove the trans.bolts,hydro.lines and brake rods.

Steps to replace a clutch in a 94 golf

A special tool VW 547 is required to center the clutch disc.
  1. Remove the transaxle.
  2. Attach a toothed flywheel locking device and gradually loosen the flywheel to pressure plate bolts one or two turns at a time in a crisscross pattern to prevent distortion.
  3. Remove the flywheel and the clutch disc.
  4. Use a small pry bar to remove the release plate retaining ring. Remove the release plate.
  5. Lock the pressure plate in place and unbolt it from the crankshaft. Loosen the bolts one or two turns at a time in a crisscross pattern to prevent distortion.

To install:

  1. Use new bolts to attach the pressure plate to the crankshaft. Use a thread locking compound and tighten the bolts in a diagonal pattern to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm) plus 1 / 4 of a turn.
  2. LIGHTLY lubricate the clutch disc splines, release plate contact surface, and pushrod socket with multipurpose grease. Install the release plate, retaining ring, and clutch disc.
  3. Use special tool VW 547 or equivalent to center the clutch disc.
  4. Install the flywheel, tightening the bolts one or two turns at a time in a crisscross pattern to prevent distortion. Tighten the bolts to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  5. Install the transaxle.

I have a 5 year old EU300is that would not start with or without the battery. I went through all the usual such as gas, plug, oil, etc. The battery showed 12 volts, however, when tested further it would not hold a load. I bought a new American made battery and now the unit runs fine.

I have a 5000 w maxa ER generator that has a battery assist added ( PM 0525312.17 ) Question...Is the battery a regular 12v car battery, or maybe a lawn tractor battery?? Once the generator is started...

Replace battery with your choice of 12v products considering physical size, amp range and warranty. Lawn tractor batteries seem to have the least life/duty cycle. There are two methods of charging the battery used by Coleman. One is to charge the battery with charger/alternator coils installed under flywheel of the engine and second is to charge with built-in circuit in generator itself. Examine your wiring diagram to discover which you have. Simple test with volt meter will show if system is charging. Test voltage at battery with engine off, then start engine and retest looking for slightly higher voltage indicating charge. The charging system is like a trickle charger and not like your auto with initially high amp charge then taper to minimum. If your run your generator for long periods of time and you feel that the battery is being overcharged, then rig a switch to stop charging after one hour or longer. Good holiday

No AC out put

After working on several of this style coleman generator,i have found that the lead wires in the windings that are soldered to where your brushes would contact tend to break.I don't know if it's a poor design or just a fluke,i would check to see if your getting continuity on the rotor and go from there. They seem to either "burn off" or just break.

Non-starting CV 15 S

First what needs to be established is if it is a fuel or spark related issue.

1. test for a sparkissue: using a spark tester inserted in to the spark plug boot and clamped to bare metal on the engine. Engage the starter while inspecting for signs of spark.

2. Test for a fuel issue: using fuel in a stream style spray bottle outside and away from your building. remove the air filter assy. so as to open the throttle butterfly and spray a small amount of fuel into the carburetors air cylinder, close the throttle butterfly and attempt to start, listening for a reaction.

If the engine was retired for a season and was not prepped for storage properly, then my guess would be that unspent fuel that was left in the carburetor float bowl and may have varnished, thus clogging the carburetors ventries. If this is the case. a float bowl cleaning will resolve the issue.

Another typical issue are safety switches that are not engaged or faulty and can be found at one or all of these locations.

1.neutral safety switch found at the gear shift area

2.PTO drive lever area

3. Clutch/brake pedal switch

4. Operators seat switch, under the seat

All of which could cause the coil not to fire. Most of which are ground switches that could be unplugged to by-pass.

Possible issue could be a fouled or faulty spark plug.

I hope this helps.
Good luck
