Try first the maintenance procedure suggested by marked, if it does not work do the following reset procedure:

  • Unplug printer power cable, wait two minutes and replug the unit.
  • When lights flash on power up, hold down the ON/RESUME and PAGE SIZE buttons together.
  • When only the ON/RESUME button light flashes, you release the buttons.
  • When the lights stop flashing, the reset is complete.

If problem remains, contact HP and ask if they replace the unit , sometimes they have recalls for errors of this kind.

Try following this steps:

Disconnect the Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable from the back of the product, but leave the product turned on.
Open the cover of the product and remove the print cartridges.
Close the cover and wait for the Insert Ink Cartridges message to display.
Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product and wait for one minute.
Reconnect the power cord. If the product does not automatically turn on, press the Power button.
Open the cover and reinsert the print cartridges.
Close the cover. If prompted, print a calibration page.
Reconnect the USB cable, and try to print a print job from the computer.

Hope that helps........

Printer trouble

Power cycle the printer. If problem remains, try a partial reset. You can do the partial reset as follows:
1. Unplug and replug the unit.
2. when lights flash on power up, hold down the ON/RESUME and PAGE SIZE buttons together.
3. When only the ON/RESUME button light flashes, you can release the buttons.
4. When the lights stop flashing, the reset is all done!

If problem remains, you are fully justified to ask HP to replace the unit for you (well, if you're still in warranty!). Good luck :)
