I want to do a complete recovery/reformat of a Benq Joybook S73G. How do I do that? I have the original disks with copies of software, drivers etc, but none of them seem to be a ''recovery disk''.

First, a recovery is not a format, you usually have to make the recovery disk, if one is not supplied. Are you sure the disk you have is not the recovery, are you sure it the windows disk.

There are three way's, re-install the operating, recovery, system restore.

System restore, and recovery can turn the laptop back to when you first got it.

You should try system restore first. I can't explain how to install windows, its pretty long.

Look at the disk, does it say windows xp, or vista, or does it say windows recovery.

If you really want to re-install windows, Go to the website below and study it, or print some of it so you understand it.

It has pictures and will walk you through it.
This is for XP.

This is for Vista;

Acer eRecovery for Veriton 7900

Hi,

If you have formatted the hard-Drive you,ve deleted all information from the computer.
your only other option, is to install an operating system ( Windows/Linux ) and check the device manager, to see which drivers need to be downloaded/updated. With Laptops it,s usually VGA ( graphics ) Sound And sometimes LAN/Network drivers.
a recovery cd will have all of this information, and reinstall your original operating system, including authentic product key. so sometimes worth the money.

Back to get the original vista version

Well, with any amount of luck, when you installed xp you didn't erase the recovery partition. Just boot into the recovery partition. Some laptops will let you have that option on a regular boot.

Of course, if you have the vista cd, just boot with that. You can download a free vista recovery cd here:
http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/

If that doesn't work, try to download easyBCD and hope that your vista partition shows up in xp:
