I have got a virus on my computer and got the virus off but my computer is running really slow so I have been told to save anything I want on a flash drive and then to delete everything and then use my system restore disk that I got with my computer, but I dont have that disk anymore. Is there any other way to restore my computer?

I would suggest you invest in a good antivirus software program and run it first to see if it resolves your issues. As Ladytech99 put it, restoring your hard drive is a drastic measure for a computer virus and should only be done as a last resort (as in if it crashed your drive and you were unable to retrieve any info). If you got a virus once, you will most likely get it again. each time you get a virus will you restore your hard drive? A good antivirus program will protect you and save you time and effort in restoring your hard drive each time. It is always a good idea to back up important documents regardless of virus protection or not. would suggest getting an external hard drive just to store those documents, while providing mobility in case your pc crashes and you need immediate access, you can always connect the drive to another pc and access them immediately.

If your hard drive is big enough try using Partition Magic unless you already have another partition. You can send your most important things like music, pictures and docs to the other partition. Then do a reinstall only on the C partition. Doing a system restore is drastic anyway putting your computer back as the day you bought it.
Viruses are great for messing up window system files and settings which without proper virus removal software, re-installation of the most practical partition (C) is the one to target your repairs to. This case most likely being reinstalling windows which by default is only on C. Be careful of your choices when choosing which partition to delete and reinstall. Pick only C. leaving (x) where that means your other partitions, alone.

Partition Magic is a software that lets you create another partition which is like an extra "virtual" hdd. When you first install your operating system or the store you got it from you then have the option of creating separate partitions. If you go to "My computer" C will be your primary partition, the one the OS is installed on. If you see a letter D that is not a cd/dvd rom drive then that is your other partition, already made. If so click on it and see if it opens. If it says "insert cd or dvd then thats a rom drive. If not try right clicking on d/properties and see how mb (or size) it is.Hopefuly enough to copy what you want from C. If you still aren't sure please write back and I will sign up for other means to help you.ok

My computer is running slow

if it never used to run slow, and now does, then very high chance you have virus. run full virus scans, preferably 'online' , not using your installed antivirus scanner. if this fails to relieve the problem, restart into 'safe mode', and if problem does not persist anymore, it is most likely a driver issue. must uninstall devices from device manager, restart and see if problem is gone. if not, after uninstalling all major things , then use msconfig for 'diagnostic startup', if problem is resolved, figure out which one of the startups is causing it

HI,
Go into safemode again and download this link just click on download now to get the latest malwarebytes and run it on your computer then after delete the quarantined files and restart your computer this should make it faster again if tstill the issue is slow then you may have to re-format you windows just to make sure everything runs fine again removing a virus is not that easy depends if it detects the virus, malware or spyware that is slowing your system down.

try Malwarebytes it worked for me an many as I know if it does uninstall it and format everything.

I hope this helps.

Runing slow, some time not responsive.

Below are some useful tips for making your PC's performance better. Please follow the below steps and fix your problem.
Eliminate Viruses and Spyware 1 . Run your antivirus program. There may be something slowing your computer that you can remove. It is a good idea to run your antivirus program every week.
2 . Remove spyware. Run a good spyware tool at least twice a month.
3 . Use a pop-up blocker, if you have one. Check your antivirus program.
Dispose of the Extras 1 . Delete your document files for anything you no longer need. Saved pictures, audio and video files in particular can slow your computer.
2 . Remove unwanted programs from the Control Panel area. Old toolbars or games the kids downloaded off the Internet are a good place to start.Look for software you no longer use, such as the old printer you threw out last year.
3 . Clean out your email. Old messages are a constant drain on your computer's resources. Go through every folder, deleting everything you do not need. Leave no mail! Finish by emptying the Deleted Items folder.
4 . Turn off unnecessary programs. Check your task bar for icons that show running programs. Disable anything you are not currently using.
Run Maintenance 1 . Run the Disk Cleanup tool located in your Control Panel. (Windows only. For other operating systems, please check the Resources section below.)This will remove temporary files, cookies and unnecessary components to speed up your computer.
2 . Defragment your computer. Defragging takes some time, but will speed your computer significantly. You can find the tool in your Control Panel.Run it monthly.

Hope the above information will be helpful to you. Thanks for using Fixya.

My laptop is goin really slow and i dont know why. i downloaded my favorite game world of warcarft and it was fine but now everthing on my laptop including world of warcarft is goin realy slow please help...

Did you install many more things after you downloaded the game and before the game had gotten slow?
Sometimes games take a tremendous amount of resources from the computer, and anything else that can be running in the background such as anti-virus software can really bog the system down. If you game crashes to the desktop, this can be a sign that other programs are running and taking up to much of your resources. If you game plays fine, and then slows down after a few hours, and only a reboot will speed it up, than this can be a lack of RAM. I would suggest that you start by turning down the frame rates, and details on the game and see if this helps. Generally, games have the options to do this from the main menu. If this doesn't work, I would suggest that you turn programs off that aren't needing to continually run on the computer.

Slow

I would clear your cache on your computer. Also would run Disk Cleanup & Defragment. It really depends on what OS your running because Vista can slow it down running on 2 GB RAM because thats the Minimum and the best would be 4 GB. I'm running 2 GB and it does run slow at times so thats why I use classic theme instead of Vista Aero. Also, for it being slow could be spyware or a virus. Thanks, GaComputerGuy

Computer Problems

virus/spyware/malwares and all sort of those stuff are really a pain in the neck. for it to get removed will really require alot of programs and to say at least 16 hours and yet not guarranteed to be totally free. best option>
do a clean reinstall. after the clean reinstall do a flea power (unplug your computer from the wall socket and press the power button to drain any information in the memory that could still be hiding.)

High Speed and viruses

Slowness can be caused by viruses.

Run a virus scan and see what comes up.
If there are viruses on the computer, you may want to consider Restoring your computer to factory settings.

But before you do that
Run a virus scan; go to Symantec and run it or download AVG free.

If you decide to restore to factory settings, I will be glad to help you. Understand, you will loose everything on the computer, and you will have to run all your programs again, set up your network connection and email. Very time consuming.
