Dynext router Every time I hook my router to the modem, I can't get into my internet.

It will be one of two things or both - either your computer is not setup for DHCP or your router is using the same IP address as your ISP or both.

To check ISP IP address connect your computer to your modem then: from start => run => CMD (hit enter after this)
a command window opens, type "ipconfig /all" without the quotes.
The line with "IP address" gives you your ISP IP addr.
Compare this with what you get from your router manual if they are the same then do the following:

To configure your computer to use a DHCP IP address, go to the Control panel => network connections => Properties (right click on your default connection) => double click Internet protocol (From general tab) => (a new window pops up) from the general tab ensure that "obtain an IP address automatically" is selected.

To change the IP address of your router check your manual and do the following:
IP Addr => 10.10.1.1
Sub net mask => 255.255.0.0
Default gateway => IP address from your ISP
Make sure to the router is set to act as a DHCP server.

You should be up and running.

Is that a standalone router or a modem/router combination ? If it is a standalone router, in order to set up a home network to access the Internet, you need a modem (cable modem or DSL modem) which must be given to you by your Internet provider when you subscribe for Internet service. Your Internet provider has to provide instructions on how to set up your modem. A modem acts as a router too and has a WLAN port and a number of LAN ports (between 1 and 4). The WLAN port is where you hook up your modem to the Internet using an Ethernet cable. One end of the Ethernet cable goes into WLAN port of the modem/router and the other end goes either into a cable outlet (if your Internet provider is a cable company such as Comcast) or a phone jack if your Internet provider is a phone company such as AT&T or Verizon). To connect your desktop computer to the Internet, you plug it in any of the LAN ports on the modem/router. Contact your Internet provider for set up instructions for your specific brand and type of modem.

Was having problems w/ internet connection. Brighthouse tech just left. Replaced modem and fixed a loose wire at box outside. Still won't hook to wireless and says that it is probably my router


If you have a separate modem and router turn both off and reboot only modem till all lights up the reboot router till all lights up in that order sounds simple communication problem between router and modem. If router modem combo unit disconnect either dsl or cable from router/modem leave diconnected for a short time then reconnect and reboot till all lights up. Hope this helps.

Can't get internet to work with dir-615 router for more than a day or two at a time


If you have more than one device hooked up to the router, when the problem occurs try pinging another device. If you are able to then the router is working fine and most likely the modem is flaky and needs to be replaced. The modem supplies the internet connection, the router just applies NAT so that more than one device and use your public IP address. If this turns out to be the issue make sure you contact your ISP for any special instructions. For instances Comcast requires the MAC address located on the bottom or back of the modem in order for your connection to work, other ISP use proxy settings. Century Link has no requirements.

Modem light keeps blinking Have tried resetting. Restoring to default settings. If I hook the computer directly to the time warner modem I can acces the internet fine. Thanks


If the modem light keeps blinking, it means that the router hasn't been configured yet. Also, rarely, it can be an issue with WAN port/modem port on the router or the ethernet cable connecting the modem to router or finally, modem may not be working as its not applicable in this case(as you said).
How to configure the router for Time Warner?
1.Connect comp.--(gray port) router (yellow port)--modem
2.On the computer, open the router page by typing 192.168.2.1 in the address bar of browser
3.Under Internet Settings, change the connection type as Dynamic.
4.On the far left column, click on "MAC address" under Internet WAN.
5.Click on clone and apply changes and finally check Internet status
6.If internet status > Not connected, we need to do a network power cycle
7.For this, unplug the power from router, then from modem, then unplug the coaxial cable from cable modem.
8. Wait for 10 sec, then connect the coaxial cable, then connect power to modem, wait for lights on modem to get steady, then finally, plug in the power to router.
Now, you may see proper lights lit on the router.

Hooked up arris modem with lynksys G series router


You have to set seting from routers menu. To use it hold 15 second router restart button, that restore factory setings, then go browser http://192.168.1.1/ , and use username "admin" and password "admin" in default. There you can set setting by your connection.

Router Won't connect to internet


The cable modem sometimes register the hardware MAC address of the connected device. So your PC may be registered and it won't accept the router now. Connect the WAN port of the router to your cable modem and power the modem off and on again. It should re-register the connected device and now your router should work.

Hook up router and can't access internet from wired computer.


Sometimes the modem-computer-router not "sync" together.
Try this.
1-hook the computer to modem. Internet yes? good.
2-hook the computer to router and check you IP. If it like 192.168.1.2,
the router's DHCP is working.
3-reset router to default setting.
turn off all and turn on modem, router, computer.

Router worked. Modem quit. Now it won't work with new modem


Ok in this case the problem is more than likely a generic one for all modems. All modems like to bind themselves to whatever device you have initially plugged in when you plug in the power cable for the modem. My guess is you had the pc hooked up directly to the modem and then plugged in the poewr cable to the modem.

To fix this you need to unplug the router and modem cables for 2 minutes. Plug in the modem with it being hooked up to nothing but the wall [Power Cable and Internet Cords hooked up only; no pc yet]

Your router is probably not need to be bridged so there should be a small hole somewhere on the router normally on the back or bottom saying reset. Press and hold that button with the router only plugged into the power no internet or pc [Although it doesnt matter if the pc is hooked up to the router] for at least 10 seconds. This will cause the router to reset to the factory default settings undoing the bridge. After this time the modem should say it has internet and whatever else except a activity light and similar things.

What you want to do now is unplug the router from the power and hook up the modem to the router and then plug the power cable back into the router.

After all this you should be able to go into the pc and access the router and set up the settings you like or need for the router if you want. Otherwise you should have internet again.

Has my router gone bad?


If no power lights come on... it looks bad, but try another power adapter on the router before tossing it... could be that.
