As a rule, refrigerators are the most dependable of all large appliances. Even so, they do fail to do their jobs adequately on occasion, and when they do, the results can be disastrous because expensive food can spoil in a hurry.Though most problems call for a refrigerator repairperson, there are a few simple repairs you can handle yourself by checking the power, controls, condenser coils, and other parts outside of your refrigerator's sealed, hermetic system.
Remember that the best way to lengthen the life of a refrigerator is to clean the condenser coils once a year—or more frequently if they get dirty. It is recommended to clean condenser coils on certain types of refrigerators, such as side-by-side and built-in models, at least twice a year.
If you have a refrigerator with the black coils mounted on the back, these coils don't require semiannual cleaning....
..
cheers!!!!!

GE 17.2 freezer on top fridge on bottom. Freezer is cold, but fridge is warm. Help!

Is there any frost buildup on the rear panel inside the freezer? If so you have a defrost problem of a bad defrost heater, defrost thermostat, or defrost timer/ control board. If no frost then you probably have a clogged defrost drain. Remove the rear panel to access drain hole.

Hi
There is a definetely leak in the cooling gas.
Firstly... You will need to find from where the gas has leaked. It is usually on the compressor pipes..... but not always.

Secondly you are right about the Water Valve... it needs to be changed.

Have a HOTPOINT CTX18GI fridge. Automatic icemaker doesn't work, but don't know if it's the actual ice maker or any of the switches. Water is going to the line from the sink plumbing via a standard small...

Have you tried raising the arm of the ice maker and leaving it for awhile then push it back down and see if it will work? Should be a cover that is over the plug take the cover off and unplug the ice maker, shouldn't be that hard to take off. I believe you have to squeeze the top and bottom together to remove it but Im not positive.

Is your fan blowing in the freezer? Frost on the back wall of the freezer usually indicates a defrost problem... defrost themostate, heaters, take back panel off and check evap for frost build up and if your fan in working.

The bottom drawer freezer frosts up over a few days.

There's warm moist air entering the unit from the back somewhere. Pull the unit away from the wall and check behind there. Look closely at where the Ice Maker fill tube enters through the back. If you find the air leak, use "perma-gum" (google it) to seal it.... not silicone.
