Do the inside light and turntable both come on when you try to cook?

Is it making any unusual noise or is it louder or quieter than normal?

SOURCE: Microwave works but won't heat

The most common causes for a lack of heating are a bad door switch, a loose connection on the magnetron, a bad magnetron, bad connection on the control circuit board, a bad relay on the board, bad high voltage diode, or bad high voltage transformer. GE microwaves come with a mini service manual inside, which is very helpful. Since it's only 2 years old, the magnetron would still be covered under warranty, but you would have to pay labor and service call charges. You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383 If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk Otherwise, if you pull it from the wall yourself and take it in for repair, you can save about $50 or so. It is a 2-person job since it's heavy and awkward, and it helps if you have the original installation instructions. Feel free to follow up here if you need more help. Usually when it doesn't het there is a problem with either the magnetron or one of the power tranistors. You would have to get a shop to tell you what the problem is as it can be a few things. If you have warrenty either maytags or from the store just find out from the store/maytag where the repair depot is. They will either repair or replace it. If no warrenty then don;t do anything without getting an estimate. It may be just as cheap to buy a new microwave.

It sounds like the micro generator has died.

Yes, you should buy a new one as the cost of repair is likely to be high.

Kenmore Microwave model 721.80019 does not heat

Hi

When the microwave sounds okay, but there's no heat, one of the internal door switches, the high voltage circuitry, or the circuit board may have a problem. As there was power loss due to storm so I believe it could either be the the high voltage circuitry, or the circuit board . To resolve this problem, you need the assistance of a qualified appliance repair technician.

Please do rate the solution as FixYa and revert for further assitance.

Thanks

Microwave lights and buttons work but doesn't heat up anything

When you start the microwave say for 1 minute. Listen closely when you hit start, the light should come on and about a 1/2 second later you should hear a little click and a slight hum. This means the controller is turning on the high voltage transformer and that part of it is working. My guess is that the magnatron is bad. That's the most common problems with all brands of microwaves. The mat on the top should not have caused the problem since the microwave has heat shutdowns in it. I would say that it's a 90% chance it's the magnatron. Most microwaves have a 5 year warranty on that part. Look at your owners manual. Good luck.

Re: microwave does not heat

Is very unlikely that there could be any other electrical failure since everything else seems to be working.
If you are able to fix it yourself then is way more cheaper just to buy the magnetron.
Click here to find the magnetron.
Before you do any work on this device, please click here to know how to discharge the high voltage capacitor and other safety concerns when working with devices that generate high voltages.
I would say is not worth it to spend more then $100.00 for a 5+ years old microwave.
Good Luck.
