Smith and Wesson H3

Help please , the second hand has fallen off and I want to repair it an easy job once I get inside it . Now I can make a tool to unscrew the back no problem but then I need to remove the knob that turns the hands . what do you reckon? If I take it to a watch repairer here in england they will charge more than a new one and as it is less than two years old I am reluctant to do that . Thanks Ray

Look at the back of the movement, as you pull out the knob ( the crown) you should see either to the left of the crown (in the movement) or one the outside of the movement (a little lower) you should see a piece of metal that moves every time you pull in and out. It also should have a little dimple on it ( it is called the detent). Take a pin(or something that small) and as you pull out the crown GENTLY push in on it, this should release the stem and crown. Then you should be able to take out the movement and fix the hands. When you are done GENTLY push the stem and crown back into the movement. If you find you have any problems PLEASE let me know, I will be glad to go over it with you as you do it. Good Luck!!!

This is so potentially dangerous to your watch and your wallet and your emotional well being that you should consider this two or three times before you attempt it!This is one of those "simple" looking jobs that can go south in a blink. You need a watchmaker to perform this repair. It is not an expensive fix but can turn into one rapidly if you make a mistake which is highly likely as your watch will be exposed to not only the environment but a totally unskilled mechanic.I am a pro and I see this as having a low percentage of success. Answers like these make me money!

Second hand is moving the minute had as a second hand

It sounds as though the minute hand is loose, and being driven around by the seconds hand. It is fairly easy to rectify this yourself, IF you have the expertise and correct tools for the job. Otherwise, I would suggest you took it to a reputable watch repairer - but be sure you're happy about the price before proceeding. It may be that the cost of repair outweighs the value of the watch.

How to tighten the hands on a guess watch

If by 'tighten' you mean that the hands are loose, then you will need to remove the mechanism from it's casing and use special tools to re-secure the hands. This is not an easy job, and not one to be undertaken without the correct tools - you'll also need a very steady pair of hands!
I'd suggest that you found a reputable watch repairer to sort it out - it's not a task for the inexperienced.

How do I open the face of a PHOLM watch?

take the watch to a qualified watch repair person, if it is of value to you. you do not have the proper tools or knowledge base if you are asking here.

if you try to open the back, the tool you use will slip and cut your fingers or hand. it may seem like a simple job, but you don't know how intricate and tiny the screws are that hold the watch together.

Only second hand operates. Rest of the watch won't move.

The seconds hand is purely a 60 second timer mate! It's the small crono dial at the top which is actually the real seconds hand! To get it going you need to unscrew your top adjusting wheel and push it once.....and it will start and the watch will hold time fine!
To stop the large seconds timer hand undo the bottom adjusting wheel and push it! Boom job done!
It caught me out aswell until a watch maker told me Rolex works the same and what you think is your seconds hand is just a timer the other hands won't follow hope this helps chaps

Somehow i think i chipped the face of my watch, and small chips on the inside are stopping my hands from moving. how do i get the face off?

mcdevito75 here, To get to the face of your watch is a job, you"d need a few jewelers tools and would have to be a bit handy with watches as there is a certain way to move your hands around the watches movement a wrong move of your hands in the watches movement can destroy it. First you"d have to remove the watches back cover, then you"d have to remove the stem (winder) and there"s a certain method to that with requires jewelers screwdrivers, then you"d have to lift the movement out of the case and if these chips loosed the hands you"d need another tool to re-seat them. BEST BET, Check with the repair service directory here at fixya, click on repair service directory bottom of this page, then click on watches, I am Mike D at RITE TIME BASICS and may be able to help or check with any fine watch repaire in the directory.

My Tag Heuer chronograph will not reset to zero.

Try the following, which I discovered by accident on my Tag Professional. Pull the crown out to the first position, and then you may find that successive pushes of the upper pushbutton will move one of the chrono hands by one division, and the lower pushbutton will move a different chrono hand. Similarly if you pull the crown out to the second position, the pushbuttons will control the other chrono hands. In this way you can set each of the chrono hands to their zero positions. Hope this works for you. Geoff

Problems with Tag Heuer 2000 Classic WK1120.BB0314

Explanation is simple: your watch has jammed geartrain or some dirt particles stuck into geartrain. This is why the seconds hand was moving backwards and forwards.
Nothing to do with EOL (End Of Life) feature wich is built into watch microelectronics and signals that this is the time to replace battery by advancing seconds hand two or four seconds at once.
To open the watch you need a proper watch caseback opening tool, but I can't see any reason for doing that as you will not be able to fix the geartrain problem without proper knowledge and skills.
If the warranty of the watch is expired, you don't need a TAG specialist as you will be charged for job anyway. So, find your nearest watchmaker shop and ask for repair.

I have a 1970 locman stainless steel chronograph. when i use the stop watch feature. the second hand does not return to the 12 o'clock position. instead it lands on the 3 o'clock mark. how do i re-set...

I don't know if this is the same for you, but on my watch I can pull the winder all the way out for the time setting and then I hit the start button for the chronograph and it will adjust the second hand. Hope this helps.

Reset Button on Tag Heuer watch has fallen off

That's right, nothing will hold that button in place as clipspring has fallen off or broke and retains inside the watch. Do not wind or wear your watch now as that clipspring is freely floating inside movement and can damage your watch geartrain.
Find your nearest watch repair shop and ask to refit button with clipspring. Watchmaker will know how to do the job and how to get rid of any broken remains if there are any.
