Hi I have this same nutone vx550c-and the same situation occurs-when the

vacuum is operated for approx. 5-10min the internal breaker trips-once it cools the vacuum operates again for a short period of time, I checked all outlets for blockage -did not detect any, the bag is not full . the unit is less than 2 years old.

Same exact problem only my vacuum is less than a year old. I will try calling the number you have listed and see if I can get some assistance.

My VX 475 is shutting off after a min. or two as well. Checked all of the contacts, doors, wires, replaced bag, checked unit, etc. and no cigar. I called the 1-888-336-6151 number as suggested (thank you!) and they are currently closed (it's Sunday). Hopefully they can help us out.

I finally solved the mystery. I adjusted the variable air intake relief valve (install just before unit-open in the event of a clogg to prevent motor burnout) By watching the valve when unit is being used, you can see that the system needs more air to operate, otherwise it drives up the amperage draw on the breaker and trips it. Just set the adjustable spring loaded valve so it can actuate up and down during normal use (you should hear air all of the time from the valve). Picture a big vac motor pulling air through a straw. It doesnt like it and needs more air while you are vacuuming. Happy as heck to fix this damn thing:)

I called them. They are sending a new unit. A+ for friendliness and helpfulness on the part of Nutone's customer service and tech folks.

Some of these units have had trouble with the motors and this is what causes them to shut off. NuTone has been pretty good about replacing them under warranty. 1-888-336-6151.

Nutone Model CV353; runs for several minutes and then shuts off. After a couple of hours I can turn on again, but again only last a couple of minutes. Possible relay problem?

Check the filter. If it's dirty, thoroughly rinse it in cool water, then let it thoroughly dry before using. If you don't have an extra filter to use during this time, you should get one.
It could also be a clogged hose or pipe. These would cause the motor to overheat, thus shutting off. Check hose at end for suction. If weak or nonexistent, detach hose and try dropping a penny or dime, or marble, down the hose. If it comes out the end, the hose is probably clear. If this is the case, you need to check other outlets.

Nutone central vac shuts down after a few minutes of use

this is a very common problem.

If the unit is less than 5 years old and you have your bill of sale it will be covered by warranty. Although one of my customers said that there is a recall on the motor in this unit. That is totally unverified. However, if it is still under warranty, contacting broan/nutone will give you the closest warranty depot, or they may just deal with you directly.

I do recommend that both the motor and the PC board inside be changed.

Good luck,
Mark

I have the Nutone 353 central vacuum. The last few times we have used it motor has shut down and then will come back up after an hour or so. Re-set switch does not seem to matter

I would try emptying it out and also cleaning any filters you have access to at the same time. It is usually a sensor for heat that stops the machine and if it is getting full or has plugged filters it will get hot fast cool down and then it will do it all again . Hope this helps you. Good luck

Nutone central vacuum shuts off after a few minutes running then will restart after motor cools down I cheked motor and vent ports blown out all clean

Sounds like you have an overtemp switch that is tripping and shutting your motor off. Many motors use what they call a 'snap switch" ( looks like a small disk with two wires on it ) to sense motor temp and if that trips, then it will temporarily disable power to the motor until it cools down enough to allow power to be reapplied. If you are sure everything is clean and your motor can rotate freely ( if there is a restriction that limits motor rotation, more current is drawn to drive the motor thru that restriction ..which in turn will cause excessive heat build up and the temp switch to trip) ... Hope that helps!

Checked and found that motor is definitely overheating for unknown reason. Since power unit is still under warranty, solution was to contact local service company for NuTone power unit and have them come out and fix/replace it free of charge.

If the top comes off, it will be by the motor and exhaust. Just replace it with the new one, make sure you don't mix up any wires. Also unplug it from the AC first.
